The rumors are true: the guy on the motorcycle with the flaming skull for a head is joining what until today was a fairly grounded-in-science superhero series. Ghost Rider is riding into Coulson’s camp!
It would be awesome if this were actually Nicolas Cage, but the Ghost Rider that’s being used in SHIELD is a different one entirely. The one from the movies was the original, Johnny Blaze, and this one is Robbie Reyes, a high school student and part-time mechanic who gains the mantle of Ghost Rider after a mishap during a street race. You can already see Daisy’s eyes scoping him out, can’t you?
Executive Producer Jed Whedon knows you know, and confirmed that Daisy will probably find a new love interest this season, though he didn’t say if it was Reyes or not. “People find solace in other places, and they have to move on,” he said. He also hinted that due to the trash-canning of the Mockingbird spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted, it’s entirely possible Bobbi and Hunter might return to SHIELD at one point. How is the question; they were written out pretty thoroughly.
Jeph Loeb said Season 4 “will unquestionably be the series’ biggest, most ambitious story yet… When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything.” Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns September 20 in the death slot of 10 PM Tuesdays. Don’t forget about it like ABC wants you to.
