Sony released a new Ghostbusters trailer this morning — the one with the all-female Busters and the male Janine. Let’s address the elephant in the room here first — the original trailer than Sony put out was….not exactly embraced. And even though this trailer’s a bit better than the last one, it’s not likely to change many minds. There’s a section of the fandom that considers any kind of Ghostbusters remake blasphemy and just isn’t going to give this a chance at all, in some cases making personal vows to not go to the film even though about three minutes has been revealed so far.
But if you believe any movie is innocent until proven guilty, go ahead and watch. There are a lot more allusions to the original classic seen here: the librarian ghost, the “Mass Hysteria” line, Slimer, etc. I hope the tone of the entire story isn’t “Remember when this thing happened in the original?” I expect that from JJ Abrams, not Paul Feig.
Ghostbusters (2016) opens July 15 across the land.
