Three of the top 10 grossing films this past weekend were animated, with Universal/Illumination’s The Secret Life of Pets continuing its strong showing at the box office, taking the number 2 spot with $29.6 million in ticket sales for its third week of release, bringing its cumulative total to $260.98 million. Pets came in behind Star Trek Beyond, the latest feature in the venerable sci-fi franchise, which took in $59.25 million in its premiere weekend. However, 20th Century Fox’s Ice Age: Collision Course grossed a disappointing $21.37 million and a fourth-place finish in its premiere weekend; it is the first time that any Ice Age movie has grossed less than $41 million domestically in its premiere weekend. Finally, Disney/Pixar’s Finding Dory took the #6 spot in the box office race with $7.2 million in ticket sales to bring its cumulative total to $460.2 million (and the #9 spot on the list of top domestic box office grosses).
