The Ghost in the Shell is one of the most anticipated anime series of summer 2026. The newest big piece of information we’ve gotten is its exact release date of July 7. The previous big pieces of news we’ve gotten is that the series will stream on Amazon Prime and that this series is supposed to be the closest in spirit and style to the original manga. This latest trailer shows that this version will be very different from the 1995 film and Stand Alone Complex:

This trailer promises a much more action-based take on the franchise, with lots of over the top fight scenes and fanservice. This take is closer to the original manga and quite different from the slow paced and philosophical interpretations most adaptations take. The art itself is so much brighter and more colorful than any previous adaptation. From what we’ve seen, this looks as gorgeous as we can expect from Science Saru, the studio that brought you Dan Da Dan.

There are still lots of questions fans have that have yet to be answered. We have no idea how many cours this new series will have. Neither the Japanese or English casts have been announced. Amazon Prime dubs have all been controversial, but at least it seems like they have admitted that creating AI dubs was a huge mistake. Worst case scenario, the dub gets outsourced to the cheap South African studio that’s made some controversial dubs. Best case scenario, they hire Bang Zoom to do a dub, but it would be shocking if Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (the definitive dub voice for the Major) reprises her role. There have been some new staff members announced,

  • Art Director: Emi Katanosaka
  • Art Supervision: Osamu Masuyama
  • Color Design: Satoshi Hashimoto
  • Director of Photography: Hikari Itō
  • Editor: Kiyoshi Hirose
  • Sound Director: Yuji Tange
  • Sound Effects: Shota Yaso
  • Recording: Yasuaki Ōta
  • Music Production: Flying Dog

Considering the hype behind Ghost in the Shell and Science Saru, expectations are through the roof.
