“Superman, where are you now?” Genesis once sang. He’s right here, actually. It took longer than expected, but the third season of My Adventures With Superman is almost ready to go, to the point that we now have a 60-second trailer and a June premiere date. All those who guessed it would be replacing Rooster Fighter’s timeslot on Toonami are correct.
When last we left Supes, Lois and Jimmy, they had gained a new ally in Supergirl, but a potentially powerful new enemy in S.T.A.R. Labs pilot Hank Henshaw. Henshaw carried the unshakable belief that Superman was a threat to Earth, but seemed to meet his doom when the plane he was in crashed during the fight against Brainiac. He’s not only alive, he’s more powerful than ever, thanks to his friend Lex Luthor.
Lex patched Henshaw up and gave him bionic parts to replace his broken ones, turning him into the supervillain Cyborg. He wears an “L” crest on his chest instead of an “S” so you know where his loyalties lie. This is all part of the “Reign of the Supermen” comic book storyline that this season of My Adventures With Superman is adapting.
A new Superboy was also introduced in that story, and he’s here too, though his origins could be different. As the trailer illustrates, he’s a little curious about Earth. And though she’s not shown in the trailer, we might also be seeing Green Lantern Jessica Cruz — because she’s slated to be the star of her own spinoff, My Adventures With Green Lantern. More about that later.
My Adventures With Superman stars the voices of Jack Quaid as Supes / Clark, Alice Lee as Lois Lane, Ishmel Sahid as Jimmy Olsen, Kiana Madeira as Supergirl, Darren Criss as Superboy and Max Mittelman as Cyborg. Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher are co-executive producers and showrunners with James Gunn, Peter Safran, Sam Register and Kimberly S. Moreau also serving as producers. The third season starts June 13 on Adult Swim, and each episode will be available the next day on HBO Max.
