For many out there in the gaming world, there are few things worse than a game series going from one of the best around to something truly sad. Look at Assassin’s Creed, Halo (especially with Halo 5) and so on. One title that no one expected to go that way was that of Mass Effect. The first three games (aside from the ending of the third title) were hailed as some of the best RPGs around, but then…things went off the rails quickly, leading many to wonder if a true Mass Effect 4 would come.
It started with the aforementioned ending to Mass Effect 3, which basically negated all the choices and progress players had made. Bioware was so blasted for it that they made a patch to “fix” the endings. Then, they tried to bounce back with Andromeda.
Except that game was clearly rushed, buggy, and didn’t feel like a true Mass Effect title. Thankfully, Bioware has said that Mass Effect 4 is in the works, and on their blogs, they gave an update on it:
“And of course, we’re also working on the next Mass Effect. The team, led by Mike Gamble, is made up of a team of veteran developers as well as some new, really talented people. They are all actively prototyping new ideas and experiences. AAA next-gen games take a long time to make – and we know our fans may want them sooner. But our Number One priority needs to be quality, and that simply takes time to get it right.”
That last line will definitely make people happy, because again, Andromeda was hurt by a very buggy launch and clearly rushed timeframe thanks to its overlord in EA. But if they are to take time with it this next time, there might just be hope for something truly special once again.
