Retro game collections (from their vast catalog of games from the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s) have been all the rage for retro gaming fans these last few years, with Konami being one of the publishers leading the way. Their collections have featured a wide range of franchises, from their own properties (with multiple Castlevania bundle and the recent Metal Gear Solid sets), to licensed properties (such as Ninja Turtles and Yu-Gi-Oh). Now, retro fans are being treated to something from the superhero corner of classic video games.
At IGN’s Fan Fest 2026 this week, Publisher Limited Run Games revealed they were working with Konami to publish: “Marvel Maximum Collection”, a game collection featuring several legendary Marvel games from the 80’s and 90’s! The set features a total of 13 games (though really some of them are just multiple versions of the same game). Included are the following:
- X-Men: The Arcade Game (1992): The original arcade classic!
- Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge (1992) Featuring the Super Nintendo, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear versions
- Captain America and the Avengers (1991) Featuring the Arcade, Genesis, and Nintendo versions
- Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage (1994) Featuring the Super Nintendo and Genesis versions
- Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety (1995) Featuring the Super Nintendo and Genesis versions
- Silver Surfer (1990): The original Nintendo game
Okay, in the case of “Silver Surfer”, it’s more “infamous” than “legendary”. The Surfer game is one of the most notoriously difficult games for the original Nintendo.
The big attraction here is this being the first port of “X-Men the Arcade Game” (and it’s the one developed by Konami). Other than a brief digital release during the Xbox 360/PS3 generation, this game has never been released on home consoles. Even better, Limited Run Games reveals X-Men the Arcade Game will feature “full online multiplayer support for up to 6 players, including Rollback Netcode”!
Here’s the trailer:
As referenced in the trailer, the collection also has the following features (per Limited Run Games):
- Archives: Dive into a digital archive featuring high-resolution scans of original box art, instruction manuals, and vintage advertisements.
- Music Player: Kick back and listen to the iconic chip-tune scores from every version of every game in the collection.
- Integrated CHEATS menu: Enable Infinite Lives and more in selected games
- Rewind & Save States: Finally conquer the “Deadly Walls” of Silver Surfer or the boss gauntlets of Arcade’s Revenge with the ability to rewind gameplay and save anywhere.
- Display Options: Play with crisp, modern pixels or recreate the Saturday morning experience with CRT and scanline filters.

Yes, there was other Marvel video games of that era not included here, such as “X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse” and “Marvel Superheroes in War of the Gems”, but alas, those were made by Capcom. Perhaps Limited Run Games can have a talk with them next?
“Marvel Maximum Collection” is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam). No release date has been provided yet.
