Konami, former creators of beloved game franchises, hasn’t produced anything noteworthy since they turned evil, fired all their good creators and shut down most of their video game projects. But as of now, they’re taking a weird pivot: to the PC market.
By that we don’t mean they’re making PC GAMES….they’ve decided to manufacture hardware. They’re launching a new line of desktop PCs called Arespear targeted at the Japanese esports market. The name “Arespear” is a combination of the Greek god Ares with…a spear, which is also powerful.
But do these machines have what it takes to compete in the field of high-end gamer PC hardware? Weeeelllllllll……..

Listed from most powerful to least, these are the specs of the Arespear line. They are, currently, being greeted with laughter by the Japanese gamer market. The 700+ will set you back 338,800 yen, or $3,228, while the “budget-priced” C300 costs 184,800 yen or $1,760.94.
For what’s being offered (mid-range equipment in gamer PC terms), these prices are not competitive in the least…rival manufacturers offer comparable desktops for hundreds less. Perhaps all the extra cash goes into the materials of that “stylish” shell, which is ALSO being mocked for looking more like a 1970s radio microphone than a respectable PC.
Konami hasn’t announced if these PCs will ever make it to the Western market, but the reception at home isn’t kind and we wouldn’t hold our breath. We wish they would get back to the games too, but some lessons have to be learned the hard way.
