Those of you who have been waiting eagerly for The Incredibles 2 just got some great news. Variety reports that Disney/Pixar has switched out the release dates for that movie and Toy Story 4, which was previously scheduled for June 15, 2018. Now the Parrs have that spot, and Woody and Buzz have been moved one year out to June 21, 2019.
Brad Bird is returning to direct. Little is known about the plot of Incredibles 2, but John Lasseter has shared that Toy Story 4 will be about Woody’s search for his lost love Bo Peep, who went missing at the beginning of Toy Story 3.
Studios plan their summer release schedules so far in advance now that we can tell you which films both of these will be opening against, barring any further changes. Both of them have weekends to themselves, but Incredibles 2 comes out between the openings of Transformers 6 and the Jurassic World sequel, while Toy Story 4 will be bookended by the releases of Transformers 7 (yup, another one) and a yet-to-be-revealed DC superhero movie.
Neither film is the next sequel to come out of Pixar — that would be Cars 3, scheduled for next year.
