As was noted in our Summer Game Fest summary article, this is the time of year when we have several reveals on upcoming video games, but why should PlayStation, Xbox and Geoff Keighley have all the fun? Atari has unveiled some new games week, and they’re not feeling tied to any one platform. Earlier this week, they revealed their upcoming Toy Story collection, and now we have word of a new Remaster, one in which we get to play as the King of the Monsters!

Originally released as a GameCube exclusive in 2002, “Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee” is a 3D brawler allowing you to play as one of the many giant kaiju from the Godzilla-verse. The plot description from their Steam page reads as follows: “”From Atari and original developer, Pipeworks, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered updates the 2002 fighter with enhanced visuals and quality of life improvements. Choose your monster and battle it out with a range of brutal attacks through 8 locations, each with day and night variations. Battle through real-world cities, Monster Island, and the alien Mothership. Face off against your friends in local co-op or new online multiplayer.”

Check out the trailer for yourself:

“Destroy All Monsters Melee” was originally on the GameCube

As can be seen at the end of the trailer, there’s a new character that’s been added that wasn’t in the original release: the original Mechagodzilla! The original game also was ported to Xbox in 2003 (which featured “MechaGodzilla 3”) and there was another much more simple version for the Gameboy Advanced. This new remastered version should have all versions of the different kaiju from the different console releases of the early 2000’s. This leaves us wondering if there will be additional new character or stage reveals that will be introduced in the coming months before release.

And yes, this makes for perhaps the one game that’s been announced as coming out this November, around the same time that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming out and which will be the biggest video game launch of all time. It would seem only Godzilla (and Atari) have no fear of GTA absorbing all our free time in November.

“Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered” is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and to PC on November 3rd. Are you looking forward to playing Godzilla again? Leave a comment below!
