When did comic strips stop being as popular?

Being an 80s kid (born in 79), I remember comic strips in the 80s being huge. Strips like Bloom County, Garfield (started in 78, but got really big in the 80), For Better or For Worse, Calvin and Hobbes, Mother Goose and Grimm, and The Far side were all huge strips.

The 90s were also big with Fox Trot (begain in 88, but it's popularity peaked by the 90s), Dilbert, Mutts, and Zits. And of course, there were all of the strips from decades past as well, some of which are inexplicably still being published. So when did their popularity end? I'd say after the debut of Boondocks in 1997, which was pretty much the last "big" strip to get attention, after that, most people moved on to webcomics. Agree or was the decline earlier?

To celebrate the fact that I got three weeks off from work for rest, I watched today the latest installment in the separate Minions series of movies. What I loved was the unique logo variation of the Universal logo, which was akin to the plot taking place in the late 1800s

Nicktoons in the US has recently aired something that no one expected: an AI generated ad for an overpriced plush toy.
Not everything from DC and Marvel comics needs to be more like the adaptations.
