I'll be honest, the only Playstation I own is the first one, but I have a lot of fond memories of it. I actually got mine a few years before getting an N64 and loved the Crash and Spyro series at the time, as well as Spider-Man.
When I was a little older, I got to and fell in love with Metal Gear Solid and was also able to dig into Square's RPG content, since it wasn't bank-breaking expensive to find some of those games at GameStop 15 years ago. I actually ended up preferring the SNES-era ports more than I did the PS1-era Final Fantasy games at the time, but I'm slowly making my way through VII now, and it's not bad, but maybe not the all-time masterpiece it's been claimed to be.
While I probably have fonder memories of the N64, I would have to consider the PS1 the superior system due to its impressive library and the variety it offered. I also think that one of the big reasons I think about the N64 is how much better it was as a party gaming system, but in terms of single-players and one-on-one fighting games, Sony wins.
But over the years, I ended up staying loyal to Nintendo, aside from a brief XBox phase in the mid-2000's. I am considering trying to get a PS5, as well as find a PS2-compatible PS3 in the near future to play catch-up on some of what I missed... or maybe a PS2 if it's cheaper, since I think most of the PS3-era games worth playing have been ported to the next generations. So maybe in a year or two's time, I'll have an answer for you guys.
