"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

I wonder if anime licensed by Remow are on the table since they seem to share to every streaming platform. Tougen Anki is one of the most derivative titles out there, but its got all the over the top flashy action you'd expect in a battle shonen. Kill Blue is a part of the wacky assassin shonen trend that Toonami has dabbled a little in (Assassination Classroom seems to be the granddaddy of the subgenre).
I was wondering the same after seeing how widely distributed it is. I removed it from my backlog until the next schedule gap is settled since it feels like a real option.

I don’t know much about it other than some memes people made about its fanservice. Which would be good for Toonami, we are in a severe drought on that front.

I'll still bet on Fire Force final season. Bumpers taking advantage of the summer for 'things are firing up' pun and all. Pleasantly be surprised if it's a new acquisition like Gachiakuta from Kodansha.
I’m sure they WANT Fire Force, but as usual, the hurdle is forcing Crunchyroll into cooperation. If they can’t find a backroad for it, it’s just not gonna happen.

I have also added Gachiakuta to my paused backlog pile, Crunchyroll has their grubby little claws into it, but I figure better safe than sorry.

One that I remembered is Witch Watch, it’s also from GKIDS, so it would be a fitting replacement for Dan Da Dan.

Like I speculated somewhere here, both could be the next Kondasha bundle deal.

Tougen Anki is about oni kids with Deadman Wonderland style blood powers and they all go to oni school to learn how to fight (another big shonen cliche). There's an organization trying to hunt down and kill all the oni similar to that organization in Tokyo Ghoul. Tougen Anki is a mishmash of tropes everyone's seen, with the fight scenes and fanservice being the only real draws to the series. Hey, it's a mediocre battle shonen, but with Crunchyroll blockading the vast majority of battle shonen, there's not many choices left. I'm still scratching my head on what loophole got them Tokyo Revengers and Blue Lock. If it was Kodansha, why has Fire Force been MIA for so long?

From the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:

"Toonami Schedule Update (June 13, 2026): Superman and Blue Exorcist Return"

"Toonami has released their latest schedule via the official Facebook page. Rooster Fighter will be wrapping up premieres of season one this weekend on May 30 and receiving a marathon June 6. Taking Rooster Fighter’s midnight and 3:30 slots on June 13 will be My Adventures with Superman."

Maybe they have to wait a bit for the final cour to have been out for a year or so. Some past shows I thought it was a coincidence at first but a lot of them are on their respective service for 1 year then shortly after Toonami announces they're airing them. If it's a Kondasha style deal, they could only get cour 1 right now.

Knowing Gil and Jason, they've probably tried throwing all the money they could at getting it. If it's not coming by the end of the summer, safe to say it's not coming at all.

Sad that Hell Teacher Nube and Cinderella Gray haven't been dubbed. The former would especially be a good fit for the block.

I wonder if Disney's exclusivity on Undead Unluck has run out yet since it's been removed in some regions. If it were just Viz involved, we'd likely have already gotten it.

I'm thinking if Toonami already had unlimited access to Kodansha titles, we would already have Gachiakuta and Fire Force season 3. It seems like we got Blue Lock and season one of Tokyo Revengers way past their popularity expiration date. I am still wondering if Toonami can get the Hulu seasons of Tokyo Revengers.

I have always been of the opinion that if they could swing Bleach, which is a way bigger deal, Undead Unluck should be in their strike zone.

The only issue I could see with it is shows Disney has their teeth in may come at a premium price. For a network icon like Bleach, they are willing to pay that. For an unknown, they may not be as eager to pay.

Possibly Tokyo Revengers seasons 2-4 too. Don't see why they'd air the show if they can only access the first season.

As theorized, Sailor Moon and Naruto were removed from on demand yesterday on 5/31, so those are officially gone. Hopefully they stay that way.

Usual blanks in the schedule - so looks like we're getting a Dan Da Dan marathon on June 27. The only question will they preempt My Adventures for a week for the first time or not. 8 1/2 hour slots. Seems more likely the first slot of My Adventures then the first 6 episodes of DDD, then the My Adventures rerun. And they repeat that the July 4 weekend. Then premiere DDD's replacement on July 11. But why takes so long to show My Adventures for June 27. Weird.

For some reason, Naruto is still available on DirecTV adult swim on demand. But only episodes 3-8 and 11. Sailor Moon has 1,2,41,42, and 45.

Edit: As for 6/27, theoretically the blanks could just mean they plan to premiere a show and want to announce it on their Friday schedule update graphic or on air on Saturday night. Hope we don’t get more marathons so soon.

That doesn’t necessarily mean a marathon, schedules are fully blanked out even for new shows until they formally announce them.

I don’t think they would want to crater Superman’s momentum by taking it off for 2 weeks in a row, so I’d expect it on 6/27, regardless of what happens to the rest of the schedule.

Due to the blocks decline, they may be less hesitant to start a new show just to pause it a week later. Not enough viewers left for that to have much of an impact. However, I could also see them doing a one night double up for Blue Lock, so the 12:30 space remains open, while not needing to shuffle anything else around for one night.

This of course, assumes they have something on deck to replace Dan Da Dan. If there is nothing new, they have nothing to stall for.

I just hope Yaiba: Samurai Legend makes the cut.

TV Insider updated up to July 4, new My Adventures episodes confirmed (no titles, loglines yet) so there's no gaps thanks goodness. They would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Are you saying an episode will air on the 4th? That seems like a block headed choice if so.

On that topic, while scanning the schedule, I noticed that Superman does not air anywhere but Saturday. Which seems odd since they had Rooster Fighter blasted all over the schedule.

So if you miss the Saturday showing, which a lot of people are likely to do on 7/4, you are completely hosed.

yes, that's what I'm saying.

they could change it later on but yeah after the 2 airings there's just HBO Max.
