"Tiny Toons Looniversity" News & Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I expect they'll bring back Charlie Adler as Buster, Tress MacNeille as Babs, Maurice LaMarche as Dizzy (and maybe Plucky?), Kath Soucie as Fifi and Sneezer, Billy West (or Jason Spisak) as Hamton, Cree Summer as Elmyra and Mary, Danny Cooksey as Monty, Candi Milo as Sweetie, Rob Paulsen as Fowlmouth, Concord and Arnold, Gail Matthius as Shirley, Frank Welker as Furrball and Byron.

Maybe they'll bring in some kids who debuted on "Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain", too, like Rudy (Nancy Cartwright), Vanity (Jane Wiedlin) and Andrew (Pamela Segall Adlon).

EDIT: I forgot about my favorite little pink bird.

Tiny Toons is back? Haven't seen the show in ages, but I do remember enjoying it. I would probably check it out. And characters will be slightly older, huh? Interesting idea for Tiny Toons reboot. I have a feeling that artist would draw a lot of some of characters. Especially that one certain skunk if design is generally well received in reboot.

This is really great - I grew up watching Tiny Toon Adventures myself - but I have a gut feeling the team will leave out some major characters, similar to what happened with Hulu's Animaniacs. It'll be rather interesting to see Elmyra Duff or Montana Max in the TTA reboot.

No they won’t.

ZUH?! But what about Monty? I mean, you can't have Elmyra Duff without Montana Max, her crush, Rudy Mookich, her other crush, or her pets Byron Bassett or Furrball the Alley Tat.

But if Cree were part of the show, and even without Elmyra, she'd still do the voice of Mary Melody.

I mean, who told her Elmyra's not in the new show, anyways?

Dang it! :(

EDIT: Okay, now that I think about it, it's not all that much of a surprise. Disappointed, but not surprising.

Considering that Tiny Toons reboot will go to similar route as Animamiacs reboot by replacing the old characters with new characters and keep the popular ones that people know about, I wouldn't be surprised if Tiny Toons go to the same route.

I heard about this the other day, but I thought someone was mistaken it for Animaniacs. Anyways, I’m looking forward to it.

I think Elmira might have a few strikes against her in modern times, someone can argue she promotes animal abuse and makes fun of the mentally challenged. Montana Max is likely fine.

Now you can disagree with those notions, but today's TV execs are going to be pretty careful about which characters appear in kids TV shows nowadays.

Okay. Good point.

Honestly, if Animaniacs is any indication, I wouldn't be surprised if we see more characters hit the cutting room floor. We know for sure Buster and Babs are going, but most everyone else may not be so safe.

Well, Plucky and Hamton will probably come back. Part of me thinks that may be retired due to Joe Alaskey and Don Messick passing, but who would want this show without them?

I never read Elmyra as saying anything about mental health (and this is the first time I've ever seen it suggested honestly), to me she just seemed childishly naive and enthusiastic about cutesy stuff (as a lot of us are!). Ironic if she has been struck off as "non-PC", as I assumed she was created as a "PC"\TV-friendly version of Elmer Fudd (loving animals to excess rather than hunting them). I honestly think it's more likely she's being excluded because of her divisive, almost Scrappy-like reputation, especially following the Pinky & the Brain team-up.

Yeah, unfortunately.

I'm pretty confident that they'll have Plucky and Hamton for the reboot. It isn't a guarantee, but given that they were pretty much the second duo in the main cast in the original series, I think that they'll be in the reboot too. I'm not sure about the rest of the cast though.

As for Elmyra, I never really thought of her as being mentally challenged. It wouldn't be a stretch to see her in that light, but I also thought that she was supposed to be just over the top enthusiastic about cute stuff and basically the polar opposite of Elmer Fudd. I think you could read her gag with animals as abuse, even if it was more cartoonish from what I remember. I don't remember much of the Pinky and the Brain team up, but I've heard nothing but terrible things about it for years, so wanting to avoid her because of that association is also pretty reasonable.

Wouldn't hundreds, if not thousands, of cartoon characters be accused of that?

Yeah, it's pretty extreme, and I'm sure that's not it. I think it has more to do with Elmyra's public rep after Pinky, Elmyra and The Brain.

Elmyra was never projected as a role model anyway; there were times when she did something so outrageous that they had to break the fourth wall and beg the children watching not to imitate her.

This is the LAST thing I'd expected to get revived and I'm kinda excited for what's gonna happen. Shame about Cree Summer not reprising as Elmyra though.

I don't understand why people are surprised about this. Have you guys lived under a rock in the last 20 years? All Warner Bros does is reviving and rebooting. Except anything remotely reviveable to be revived.

Tiny Toon Adventures is pretty ageless. I would be more surprised if they revived/rebooted something very 90s like Swat Cats, which is hard to modernize.

Well so far Elmyra won’t appear on the new Tiny Toons and that means no Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain cartoons on the show and still I think we won’t have Montana Max in it and will be replaced by Rudy Mookich and Mary Melody (maybe a cameo for a paycheck) will be replaced by Vanity White and Ms. Entenbe will be the only human teacher of Acme Loo (besides the other human teacher in going places) and maybe we’ll get a appearance by the flea family.

My first instinct would be to not expect Montana Max, as I didn't think Danny Cooksey would still be doing much VA work. But I checked, and while he's been a little inactive in the past 5 years, he did do some stuff during the first half of the 2010's. I didn't know that he was the voice of Kick Buttowski, for instance.

If he can still do the voice and wants to, I say bring him on. Montana was a good antagonist and probably easier to add in than Elmyra. I think he'll be more likely to appear than a lot of the less important characters, like Sweetie Pie, Fowlmouth, Calamity Coyote or Little Beeper.

A while back I had this idea for a theoretical TTA reboot, and I came up with a (admittedly not creative) way to compensate for Messick's death by "replacing" Hamton--"replace" him with his little cousin--a brand new character. The in-universe explanation would've been that Hamton's father got a job offer in another city and consequently Hamton's family moved out of Acme Acres. Then along came Hamton's cousin (I still don't know what his name should've been), who moved into Hamton's family's old residence. Theoretically, Hamton himself could've made a guest appearance in a one-off "family reunion" special ("I just got a letter from Uncle Wade and Aunt Winnie--Cousin Hamton's coming to visit!").

Obviously this is one of the most common reboot/sequel tropes/cliches--characters suddenly having siblings, cousins or other relatives that weren't mentioned before just to compensate for the loss of the original actor. However, when Alaskey had died, I'd figured I'd have to have given Plucky the "little cousin" treatment as well.

For the record, I don't have anything against recasts, and they can work provided the right sound-alike is chosen, but consider this a back up plan. Just like with Disney's Rescuers Down Under, when Orville Albatross' VA died, several sound-alikes were tested but didn't sound convincing enough, so they decided in the end to give Orville a brother named Wilbur (just like the Wright Brothers).

But Hamton and Plucky certainly are important characters, and they're important enough to justify recasts. In the case of Hamton, one likely candidate for a sound-alike IMO is Jeff Bergman. Bergman was the original voice of CN's classic toon sister-station Boomerang, and his announcer voice is very similar to Messick's announcer voice that can be heard on so many classic Hanna Barbera cartoons. In addition, Bergman voiced many Messick-originated characters, such as Boo Boo Bear, for many late 90s/2000s CN and Boomerang promos.

In regards to Elmyra's being eliminated from the reboot, I wonder what the in-universe explanation for her absence will be. My theory was she'd be serving a life sentence in the Acme Acres State Penitentiary for her history of excessive cruelty to animals.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
