TOM in a fighting game is pretty cool, I'd be interested to see how they have him fight. Also, can't beat free DLC. When's it come out?

Apparently the Facebook page where someone read that info was not legit but the console version of Punch-Time Explosion is supposed to come out during the Holiday season this year.

Now I know this is a long post but I got to thinking a while back that what if Toonami had never ended and was still around to this very Saturday Night. After some research, looking through archives and using some intuition, I found the perfect place to start tweaking the Toonami schedule and constructed this schedule:

Give me your thoughts and opinions (and if your reading this Sketch the schedule pimp, please let me know what you think:anime:)

Sketch is going to come into this thread and have a heart attack, xD (and I said that before reading the last line of the above post)

While that is quite a detailed list of lineups for Toonami wjbraden, it is against the rules to make fantasy schedules on this board. It doesn't really provide much discussion outside of hoping for what could have been and it can seem like post-padding. I believe that they are allowed to be made in the Fun and Games board, although please correct me if I'm wrong on that part, and if you want someone particular to see you fantasy schedules, then you're more than welcome to send that person a PM. They're just not allowed here on the Cartoon Network Cartoon board anymore.

You know, say what you want but I miss Toonami Fantasy schedules. I kinda feel like they would be more fun now than anything else..

Did somebody shine the Hyper Luigi signal? It's SHOWTIME!

Ah... memories.

I've taken a liking to making fantasy schedules using the shows I have on DVD. The television network I could make from that is vastly superior to any currently on television including Toonami in it's best years (because it has some of the best shows to air on Toonami for one thing).

Well wjbraden, fantasy schedules aren't permitted here anymore. Feel free to check out the link in my signature for that form of entertainment. But since you asked my opinion and I saw the post in time I'll go ahead and give my opinion.

First of all, it's unlikely by 2011 they'd still have 10PM or even 9PM for Toonami but setting that aside I'll ask where is Ben 10 Alien Force / Ultimate Alien (I saw Ben 10 listed for filler at some point but nothing beyond that), Generator Rex, The Secret Saturdays and Star Wars: The Clone Wars in all of this? Sure they could be on their own block but since you have a 4 hour Toonami block here, why not use more of them? CN surely would have.

This is assuming Cartoon Network both continued to pick up a lot of non-toyetic anime and that they would have both Toonami and a block for those original series. Why not include them though? You included Brave and the Bold and Young Justice.

Seems kind of odd to have SGT Frog at 10PM. I mean sure it's got a PG dub but it's still safe enough for the earlier hours. I'd put it at the front of the block even.

I could see them picking up Wolverine and the X-Men and holding on to Fantastic Four but not see them air both and then lose them to Nicktoons so quickly. FF didn't pan out. I think they should have gone for Wolverine and the X-Men but I believe they may have been outbid by Viacom. That or they simply felt The Super Hero Squad Show was more fit for the audience they were trying to attract at the time.

This implies a lot, such as CN not changing management or CN getting different management and there's nothing that can be said is "impossible" given that scenario but these kinds of things would not happen during Synder and Sorcher's reign. If they had kept Toonami it would have become the Friday block and maybe just maybe they would have kept Naruto and got Shippuden and maybe kept One Piece. They likely eventually would have gotten DBZ Kai as well. I wish I knew the actual reason why they dropped One Piece early in 2008 with episodes left to air from the FUNimation order and I wish I knew why Blue Dragon which did moderately well on Saturday mornings was removed from the line-up despite that. But that's something will never really know.

Transformers Prime wouldn't happen because Toonami's lack of existence is not the reason why Hasbro ushered in The Hub. Not even different management at CN would make a difference in that regard.

You also made some additions to Adult Swim that probably wouldn't have happened regardless because the AS management has remained the same. Though I suppose it's probable they would get other shows instead of Moribito and Kekkaishi if both went to Toonami. That wouldn't neccessarily get InuYasha Final Act on AS by now nor open the door for AS to get Buso Renkin, Devil May Cry, Eden of the East and Darker than Black much less Beserk.

I think if Toonami existed as a once a week block today it would be airing Ben 10, Generator Rex, Brave and the Bold (but not for much longer), Young Justice, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and ThunderCats. If it had anime it'd be Naruto Shippuden, DBZ Kai, Kekkaishi (unless it just finished like it did on AS) and maybe One Piece if they didn't give up on it when they did. That's of course a lot for one block so maybe they'd have to expand for that or maybe they'd do two action blocks instead of one (maybe only one of which would be Toonami) unless they rotated shows.

In the current CN hours probably one block with Ben 10, Rex, Batman and Young Justice and the other with Star Wars, ThunderCats, Naruto and DBZ Kai. ThunderCats would be replacing Kekkaishi. Maybe mixed a little differently than that but you get the idea. If one or both blocks were 3 hours instead of 2 then One Piece and reruns of previous shows might be on the schedule.

Anything on top of that seems really unlikely even if CN didn't change management. Eventually they'd still be making more original series and WB action series and thus have less need and want for acquisitions that don't pull in equivalent numbers. Anything short of Naruto and DBZ probably couldn't compete. Though I'd like to think One Piece could if it had continued to air on CN. Most of the other anime tried on Toonami to come after Naruto simply didn't pan out. Fairly Tail might be another that could potentially compete. Near as I figure it stands the best chance of getting a TV deal out of all the rest shounen series that have been licensed. Wouldn't be surprised to see it on Nicktoons in particular but I'm not entirely ruling out Cartoon Network either.

We can always wonder what might have been but I don't think quite as many bold moves would have been done even under the previous management much less under the current or somebody else unless they really had a fondness for Japanese cartoons.

Wow, thanks for responding so quickily, and giving such a good critique. I probablly should have mentioned that shows like Generator Rex, Ben 10 and Secret Saturdays would have been exclusive to "You Are Here" which would have been a more "kid friendly" Action block, with shows not exceeding a TV-PG V rating.

I know management has changed drastically at CN since the days of 2004-2006, but I wanted to demonstrate how CN could have taken risks like they used to back in the day. I agree with the 10:00 hour being taken away, but I don't think there's any reason for 9:00 hour going to [AS] in any circumstances.

As for SGT Frog, I kind of though of this as a Bobobo kind of show with the number of Japanese references, and it was usually at 10:00pm back in the day, so I stuck it there.

Forgot about Hasbro and Transformers Prime, so yeah, that wouldn't be there anyway.

It's been a long time since I've been here at the forums (I had an old account but I forgot what it was, so I made this new one) so I didn't know about the fantasy schedule thing. I should have just had a few comments or something. Oh well!

If Toonami existed today then I think 2 airings of the block per week would be really the way to go, one on Wednesday night between 7-9pm and the other on Saturday night at the same time. They could section off the programming so that stuff like Batman: The Brave and The Bold, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Thundercats, and The Clone Wars could take place on Wednesday night's schedule and Saturday's schedule could contain the anime (Shippuden, One Piece, Kekkaishi, others). It would be fun to have 2 nights a week worth of action programming to look forward to, or they could have kept anime specific to Toonami and Wednesday could be the home of action premiers kind of like Friday night is now.

Either way, Toonami alive or not, I'm enjoying the Night of Action block on CN when the programs are in premieres, it's fun to kick back and enjoy a night of explosions, fighting, heroes, villains, and fun stories. At the end of the day good action programming is all I ask of Cartoon Network, and luckily....they deliver.

Man, the Toonami Forum Archive's looking pretty bland these days..
Yeah, another bit of Toonami history fading away. It wasn't compatible with the recent upgrade.
Too bad, it was the most beautiful of the Toon Zone forums.

And William C. Maune's avatar doesn't appear next to his posts because of that facebook thing.

A really good aspect of Toonami is that you'd consistently have new episodes to watch every day. It wasn't repeats over and over again, which annoys me about CN right now.

Toonami reran the crap out of most of it's shows when it was on weekdays particularly Dragon Ball Z.

Cartoon Network always spams their latest shows. Now it's Adventure Time and Regular Show. Before that it was Chowder and Flapjack. Before that it was Foster's, Camp Lazlo, and Gym Partner.

Back in 2003, Toonami gave SD Gundam at least 6 runs, back-to-back instead of rotating a different show in the time slot. That got old fast.

Well, that was its secret to building a fan base. It was hardly alone in that regard as most afternoon blocks at the time used the same practice.

Airing one day a week for a 150 episode show is rather... sluggish. Especially if said show has lots of filler...

Toonami reran the crap out of most of it's shows when it was on weekdays particularly Dragon Ball Z.

CN ran 40 new Freeza episodes in a row, every weekday in the block, for an entire fall. Cell was over 75 consecutive new episodes in a single season! We're lucky to get 15 or 20 total new episodes on all of CN in one week now. Toonami itself was running that amount of new content around 2000 and 2001.

That's the big benefit of shonen on cable: stations can acquire large numbers of episodes at the same time and just run them without worrying about running out of content.

Last night started watching a new adult animated series, a Netflix original that is basically the succesor to Big Mouth.

What is so great? Despite being a 18+ show, they actually bothered to give it a Romanian dub :ack::eek:
