The only thing I can really think of was that one trailer that named lots and lots of characters and showed a shot of each of them, including Patty & Selma. There was also Mr. Burns saying "Hmm, that's really the same thing" but that may have just been new voice acting set to manipulated footage for the sake of the commercial.
There was a scene from the commercials where Patty and Selma are at the DMV and pretty much the whole town arrives and Patty or Selma (forget which) says "Next..." and they all struggle to reach the counter. I don't remember seeing that in the final film.

If it's true that they had to delete almost an entire movie's worth of colored footage, then I am definitely salivating over the DVD.

On that note, I remember hearing once that supposedly over half of the footage in the trailers was fake... but now that I've seen the movie there's barely anything I can remember from clips or commercials that wasn't used. or one of the many deleted scenes.

I think I remember that. And of course, Julie Kavner is credited for doing their voices in the credits. The voice of Kang is also credited, which is odd because there's NO way he appeared in the movie, whereas the other characters were probably all in the mob scene.

Kang and Kodos were originally going to pick apart all of the plot holes in the film during the end credits, which is why he is in the credits.

I saw the movie yesterday. It was good, but I expected a little more..

B -

Best line in the whole movie:

"So we finally meet, guy who I don't know."

That would have been funnier than "sequel."

Well, I got what I wanted: more "hit" jokes than "miss," expert comic timing, three-dimensional emotional writing, and one more glimpse of Becky (I'm her only fan). That was fantastic, and I was in awe all through the bus ride home. Then I sat in front of the computer, booted up the Internet and realized: "HEY, THE SIDESHOW BOB SCENE WAS MISSING!"

Aside from that, the only bad part was when Alvin ate Theodore's poo.

Welp, only one logical solution then:

"Pack up, kids... the Simpsons are going to the Moon!"

Maggie's already been to the moon ;)

On that note, I remember hearing once that supposedly over half of the footage in the trailers was fake... but now that I've seen the movie there's barely anything I can remember from clips or commercials that wasn't used.

I expected more misdirection. Some of Homer's dialogue while he had the wrecking ball was different, I believe, but I thought there'd be more fake outs. At least the missile thing only ended up being part of Itchy and Scratchy.

Becky as in Otto's ex? I need to see this movie again just to look at the background characters. I think my favorite was either Gabbo (who was shown in the preview) or Chester J. Lampwick.

I was really, really surprised at the movie. Felt it was more like Season 9. Incredible animation, and wonderfully done.
Went with "Classic-Era style".

The theatre was packed when I saw it last night. And yes I got to see The Dark Knight teaser with it as well. I have to say I was really surprised with the movie. It was better than I thought it'd be. My better half (he's also a Simpsons fan) really liked it as well. There were alot of gags throughout and it was definately worth it to stay through the credits. It's going to be odd going back to the show after seeing The Simpsons so well animated in this movie. And I'm so glad to hear it doing really well.

Aieee, it's not fair! This was my list:

The Bourne Thirdsequel
Daddy Day Camp
Those Creepy Chipmunks
Stardust
Rush Hour 3
Something with The Rock from Walt Disney (again? Has he no self-worth?)
Horton Hears a Who

Why do these things vary? Can anyone who's worked for a theater tell me?

^It all has to do with what trailers are sent with what movie. "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Horton Hears a Who!" will be seen with the Simpsons Movie throughout its entire run (yes, even if it's still in theaters in October), because those two came with the movie. Theaters are also sent "trailer packs", which is either three-to-four trailers from various distributors, which comes from the theater chain's corporate HQ. They usually are packaged as "PG-13 Comedy"; "Action"; "R-rated Horror", "Children's" and such. I saw the Simpsons Movie twice, the first time I got (along with Chipmunks and Horton) "Game Plan" (bad Rock flick), "Daddy Day Camp", "Stardust". This, I assumed, was the "Family" pack. No Dark Knight. The second time I got "Mr. Bean's Holiday", "Rush Hour 3", "Bourne". I assumed this was "PG-13 Comedy". Still, no Dark Knight. Why? Because Dark Knight was given to SELECT theaters. In other words, the Regal corporate that regulates our area never got the print. I think AMC got first dibs on those Dark Knight trailers. It's obvious WB wanted to get the word out, but not cause it to a point where Fox makes a gigantic amount of money on Batman fans seeing the Simpsons Movie out of intrest for the trailer. It's online, anyways...

I didn't even get Stardust. I got Mr. Bean instead of the Rock one, too. We got all those other ones, though.

I think we got the Golden Compass, though. So that's something.

But man, what crappy trailers. I wanted Dark Knight and Walk Hard, dammit. Bourne and Compass were the only half decent ones.

I don't think that I've ever seen a full episode of the Simpson, in spite of being a pop culture junkie. Is there something very wrong with me?
Yes, very (not really). But don't worry, you can rent seasons of the Simpsons on DVD! I reccomend using Netflix. But what season to start with? The first season introduces the characters and their relationships, but its humor is weak when compared to later seasons, plus the characters' personalities were still being developed, and they act somewhat differently than they would in later seasons. Season 2 is where the animation, humor, and characters really start to blossom, but it is a titch more emotional than later seasons (which can be good or bad, depending on your point of view). Season 3 is where the feel, tone, and type of humor of the show really becomes what it is for the rest of the series. Seasons 3-8 are all very good (season 2 too). Season 9 isn't bad, but season 10 is somewhat lackluster (haven't seen most of season 10 in a while, so I'm going by somewhat vague memories).

To jump into The Simpsons, get season 5 first. Then get 4 & 3 second. If you don't like it by then, then it's not for you.

By "get", I mean rent or buy. Whatever's cool with you.

The Simpsons is on syndication in most cities like 3 or 4 times a day, sometimes more. How could you not have seen an episode in 15+ years? Hell, I dislike Friends and I've seen at least 5 full episodes accidentally.

As a huge fan of the "classic" Simpsons and a long-time hater of the "new" Simpsons, I enjoyed the movie. It was mired by recent-style humor and absurdity, but had enough wit, heart and charm that it reminded me of the good old days.

They pulled it off. They actually made it work. A movie with the heart and humour of classic Simpsons and Futurama!

I enjoyed this movie a lot

Really good and awesome

Not as funny as I had hoped, but still funny. Bart's doodle and Homer's birdies were two of the funniest things. Moe getting robbed was great, as well as the bomb diffuser bot shooting itself. When Green Day said "enviornment", the audience went silent with the crowd in the movie, and my chuckle echoed, so that was cool. Treasure of Ima Weiner. Awesome.
I guess things would have been funnier if the audience didn't read EVERY SINGLE SIGN out loud. They even sang along to Spider-Pig. Agh.
Good plot, though, and it was funny, despite the audience and Homer being more of a jerk than funny most of the movie.
