The New Robin

Well a few things,

I think the comment about Bat's being a "pimp" is way off the mark. If the problem is that the new Robin is Female, then logical reasons why a woman can't be Robin are in order. Personally I think Frank Miller pretty much settled that argument.

Kyle as GL. It's one of those take it or leave it situations. A lot of long term GL fans have major issues with Kyle, how he was selected as Lantern, and his behavior as Lantern. I'm not sure their are going to be a whole lot of tears shed if Rayner leaves the Ring Slinging to someone else.

I think the comment about The Batpimp was a joke, though I'm sure someone could go all Freudian and ramble about sexual repression and his mother... ;)

I'm one of those that deoesn't outright dislike Kyle, but he's certainly not someone I care about, like Tim, Dick, or Bruce. I'm much more partial to John Stewart as GL, though I don't really CARE that much about him, either... at least in the comicverse. I think his comicverse history is really interesting, though.

Identity Crisis is being labeled, at least by DC, as the next major revamp of the DC Universe. Hence the Crisis tag line. It is suppose to be the most wide ranging revamp of the DCU since Crisis on Infinite Earths. Some of the rumors are as follows, and please stay tooned for the official Identity Crisis Thread coming to a Computer near you this weekend:)

1) Hal Jordan is Back as Green Lantern. He is released of the Spectre's duties
2) Kyle packs it in as GL.
3) New Female Robin (Confirmed)
4) Batgirl becomes the New Robin
5) Barbara (Oracle) Gordan comes back as Batgirl (Batwoman?) Just an interesting note the DC Direct is releasing a Batwoman Action figure set.
6) Major changes in the Justice League
7) New Firestorm (Confirmed)
8) Major, and semi-revealed changes, for the Superman Titles
9) Several second tier DC Characters Die

Remember that except for the Robin story line, everything else is just rumor!

Wow, this blows. Least they could do is make the Robin outfit look like less of a target.

Only My hairdresser knows for sure.

Could be or it could be a wig. Remember these are just rumors. Nothing confirmed. The only thing we know for sure is that Tim is leaving as Robin. Now that was a rumor that had been floating in fandom for Months. About the lenght of time as the Batgirl rumor. BUt agin, it's only rumor.

You know I would of perfered if they had brought in some silver age elements to the female Robin costume. I mean I perfer the modern costume to the Dick/Jason one, but still it's nice to be nostalgic... or maybe I just like seeing girls in green hot pants.

Yeah, I was just kidding, and there isn't a reason why robin couldn't be a female, but I was pointing out how the bat-family would be uneven. Batman/Catwoman, Huntress, Robin, Oracle, Batgirl... I don't know whether to count Nightwing, or not. Therefore, Batman's got all the ladies :p

Sure you can count Nightwing. He's like an estranged son. He still loves his father and comes through for him when he's needed, but their relationship isn't all it should be. I blame Bruce. He freely admits that he's not that good at the fatherhood thing, but then turns around and continues to act like an idiot and not ask for help.

And yes, Batman DOES have all the ladies. I mean, it's a choice between mystery man and boyscout...who would you want to go out with? ;)

To Quote a famous source...........

It's the car, chicks love the car.

well.. i guess noone's ever going to doubt that outfit would look odd on the wearer, huh?

anyway.. robin's outfit, in all its evolutions, couldn't be very much altered in the design... after all, the flying greysons (his dead family) chose to wear it , perhaps even before his birth.. now didn't they?

maybe if she becomes popular, she'll be the new robin in the 4th season... of the teen titans show, if it goes on that long.. after all, stranger things have happened. though with all the continuity resets in the past 3 decades (80's, the crisis, late 90's or later, zero hour, and whatever this identity crisis will mean) .. i can't seem to remember any

though i'm still pretty sure my outfits haven't changed all that much over the years.

This could prove an interesting direction in the character, I think. I am just worried that it will turn into the Bat version of Tenchi Muyo or something thats really tacky.
Well I just hope it is not somthing that relates to any anime Outlander, yet even if the boys decide to come after her that is just plain odd, yet her attitude would be more like Mandy if I say so my self, in comparason that is.

Personally, I think the biggest problem with the mainstream DCU is that it doesn't know how to stick with what works. Every single month there are more and more promises of "Earth-shattering, character-altering revelations that will forever impact the DCU".

Please. Did Joker die? Did Bruce Wayne's back never heal? Did Jason Todd die? Did the Multiple Universe question ever get a straight answer?

It's because of the constant gimmics that the world of comic books is never really taken seriously by people looking in from the outside. Don't get me wrong, I love the over-the-topness of it all too, but eventually readers want titles and characters who don't keep changing in an attempt to get more attention. It's like every single title out there is a child in preschool, screaming at the top of its lungs for our attention.

That's why I look around comic shops ever so briefly before grabbing my Batman Adventures and running home without looking back.

If Tim Drake works, he works. Stop trying to pay homage to Frank Miller already. I haven't even read his work, and I'm all ready turned off by it. A girl Robin ain't that big a deal.

Yawn.

If you haven't read his works, then you're in no position to judge or comment on them.

What has me interested is how Robin is going to quit, and when. I've read the synopsis to Robin #125 and it looks "his secret identity has unravelled," according to the synopsis. Here's a link to the cover:

You know, I think I would've been happier if they just retired the Robin name. I'm just really iffy on someone else, especially if it's Spoiler or even the new Batgirl, taking over the mantle.

For the most part, DB, I agree with what you said. However,...Jason actually has STAYED dead, so every once in awhile, a status-quo DC story line actually DOES stick.

I think its pretty clear that ROBIN will be Spoiler. Shes been a supporting character on Robin since the beginning. Shes appeared in several issues of Batman and shes blonde like the cover pic.

I dont think its feasible that its Cass/Batgirl.

I do wonder about what this means for TIM DRAKE. TIM DRAKE is one of those characters that has become so well defined that he stands apart from the Robin persona. I would still want to know whats happening to TIM even if hes not Robin. Unlike some other characters where the super-identity is more important than the civilian identity (Green Lantern, Iron Man, Captain America .. ) some characters civilian identities make the character relevant and are impossible to replace <even though its been tried however briefly > (i.e. Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker).

I wont mind if Cassie becomes Robin.. theres potential in the character. Its logical based on the storylines leading up to the event ( I might have a serious credibility issue if Bruce pick another teen ager at random to become robin).

I just dont want them to forget about TIM. I think it might be interesting if they give TIM a new identity like Dick's Nitewing. Maybe Tims decided he cant be a full time hero - but it would be against the characters nature to sit it out during a major crisis.

In any event ... I see Cassie losing the title of Robin and TIM coming back
similar to the AZREAL/BATS storyline.

I just thought of a great story they'll never do. In Identity Crisis they kill of Bruce Wayne. So now the role of Batman is empty and with no terror lurking the night Gotham is in Chaos. Dick can't become Batman because he'd have to abandon Bludhaven. So Tim reluctantly for the good of Gotham becomes Batman. And the new Robin stays the Robin.

EDIT: Sorry Mr. Man got my Robins tangeled up for a second there.:D

HUH ? What ? Didnt you say he couldnt become Batman? What happened to Bludhaven?! HOLY CONFUSED IDEA BATMAN !

What happened to TIM? Is he in Bludhaven in your story?

I was thinking it was either Spolier or the new Supergirl as Robin. Since Supergirl will make her debut in Superman/Batman, it's possible that Batman will want her to have training to be able to defend herself if she ever loses her powers.

As cool as that might be .. DC is not going to write a robin with Superman level power in a Batman book.

Supergirl fighting the penguin isnt going to make for exciting stories.

You'll notice that all of a heroes villans are in the same power level as the hero of that book. Thats why you never see Darkseid in Gotham. Likewise the Riddler usually stays out of Metropolis.

Sounds like a stupid gimmick to sell 1000 more issues to me.

DOES anyone know what issue this new ROBIN is being introduced in?
Is she only appearing in the ROBIN title or is she being featured heavily in
any of the bat titles?

I might be the only one who cares but why is Scooby Doo basically unavailable everywhere? Netflix has only Mystery Inc and the two James Gunn movies. Tubi has What's New and Where Are You. Meanwhile HBO Max has basically nothing. I've been itching to watch the classic Scooby Doo direct to video movies lately and they're nowhere to be found outside of purchasing them on sites like YouTube.

What is so great? Despite being a 18+ show, they actually bothered to give it a Romanian dub :ack::eek:
