It's an excellent and underrated 1982 animated fantasy from Rankin-Bass about a unicorn who thinks she is the last of her kind as she wonders into the dangerous but magical world beyond her to find them, she meets a handful of different people including a magician who magically transforms her into a beautiful human maidan to fool the bad guys who have the unicorns of the world hostage. A prince falls in love with her as she must decide for 3 days weither to save the unicorns of the world or stay lovey dovey with the prince.

It's a unique and one-of-a-kind animated movie with the voices of Christopher Lee, Jeff Bridges, Angela Lansbury, Mia Farrow, Rene Aubejenos, Robert Klein ( from "Tales from The Darkside Movie"), and the music of America. Does offer a nice soundtrack, good animation for it's time, laughs, tears, and not to mention when the unicorn becomes a human chick, she is absolutely soooooo hot! especially in her birthday suit scenes:D

It's a cross between " The Secret of NIMH" and " The Princess Bride", i highly recommend this movie! it's on DVD now to own and there's a live-action remake in the works coming next year which is a cash-in on the successes of "Harry Potter" and " Lord of the Rings" making the genre popular again and one of those remakes next to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Assult on Precient 13", "Dawn of the Dead", " Stepford's Wives", "Suspiria", and "King Kong" that now Hollywood is obessed with.

It's underappreciated? I know a lot of friends here in upstate New York that remember the movie very fondly. Many of us were excited when they announced the DVD.

Animated you say? Then it goes here on TTZ, not Entertainment. ;) So moved.

I agree that this movie is good enough to deserve a wider reputation. It has well-developed characters, a decent soundtrack, and a climactic scene that's among the most dramatic in animated history.

I assume you mean the scene where the unicorn is changed into a human?

Or is it the scene where she is changed back to a unicorn?

No, that scene is near the middle. I refer to the Final Confrontation on the beach.

Wah,

Hi (I'm new)
The Last Unicorn is one of my favorite animation!!! Here in the Netherlands nobody knows this animation such a waste!! But fortunely something very nice happened to me. I now work at the Cartoonschool and the owner of the school had been in Japan somewhere 1990 and he was at the studio where they had made the Last Unicorn ^_^. And now i own an original Cel from the movie. BEAUTIFULL I've got the inked/colored cel and the pencil drawing.
You see he was allowed to choose an original cel ^_^..and now he's given them to me. I'm very happy with them. ^________________^so Nice..I've got a cel of the Unicorn running the pencilart is so beautiful drawn.

^________________^..it's nice to know that other people know this animation..
It's such a beautifull story...iff this story was done by Disney every1 would know this animation.

Well no wonder it's underappriciated, look at that cover. You'd have to have some large steel balls to go into a store and buy that. Never seen it though. A little before my time. Time of birth actually. I wonder if it's downloadable.

I'll bet a lot of parents buy such videos all the time.

The Last Unicorn is one of my favorite movies, animated or otherwise(I also have the book)....The animation is awesome(esp. the transformations),and I love the characters esp. Unicorn/Lady Amalthea and Schmendrick the magician....I got the DVD as soon as I could when it came out...

I barely remember seeing this on HBO as a kid.

I don't recall seeing the Last Unicorn. Maybe I did but don't remember after all it was in the 80s and I was a baby back then so I'll probably won't remember what happen.

I remember seeing it eons ago. Can't remember what it was about for the life of me.

A short IMDB trip later: Rankin and Bass farmed this one out to Germany eh? Thats odd, usualy they worked with Toei Doga and that Korean company.

The Last Unicorn was probably RankinBass' best animated film of all time. It had music by America, gorgeous art, diverse character designs, bittersweet poignant story and excellent animation. I think it's still out on VHS and it is one of the ultimate fantasy films ever. It was based off of a book, even though I can't recall the author's name. This is literally one of the best animated films of all time.

It was a reeeeeally long time ago that I saw The Last Unicorn. The only scene I remember is one where the ground shakes under the unicorn and she falls and a volcano erupts.

That happened in the movie, right?

ah yes, my first taste of animated female nudity before I discovered anime, I haven't seen it in decades but then if there's one thing Rankin-Bass does well it's animated hot chicks (Cheetara anyone?)

That would be Peter S. Beagle. He makes a cameo in this movie, as the butterfly with the miniscule attention span.

Ah, not exactly.
But I shouldn't explain what does erupt, in case you have occasion to see it again.

Whoaaaaa this is super super old I was just a little kid when i saw it. I still remenber bits of it.

I saw it as a kid, but I Hardly remenber half of the movie

I vaguely remember this, but for what I remember this movie was very good.

The one scene I clearly remember is when the group meets a skeleton that wants to drink some wine, and the magician gives him an empty bottle which the skeleton happily "drinks".

Extremely good animation, specially coming from Rankin/Bass. Did thid originally air in theaters? Or was it made for TV?

To celebrate the fact that I got three weeks off from work for rest, I watched today the latest installment in the separate Minions series of movies. What I loved was the unique logo variation of the Universal logo, which was akin to the plot taking place in the late 1800s

Nicktoons in the US has recently aired something that no one expected: an AI generated ad for an overpriced plush toy.
Not everything from DC and Marvel comics needs to be more like the adaptations.
Woah yeah today is my Birthday!
