The General "Computer Issues" Thread

try restarting your computer and running the update again. if that does not work, restart with f8 go to safe mode with networking and try it there.

Still having problems downloading this program. I'm getting a pop up message which says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." What the hell do I have to do to get this to work?

What OS are you using?

No you cant get rid of malware without the help of malware removers. What antivirals do you have?

Webroot Antivirus with Spy Sweeper. I checked a few pages back in this thread and found that solution you posted (Hiren's.BootCD) and fix the problem. So thanks En Sabah Hur. Now I got two questions. I know what a rootkit is, but what does Rootkit.Unlcassified/USBHubB means? Because that one the antivirus you recommended found. The second question, are adwares dangerous? Since the antivirus also found a lot of them.

Internet Explorer is acting up a tad. I can view videos from YouTube or Bliptv if I go to the sites themselves, but if I try watch them on another site (like say That Guy With The Glasses), the screen is blank except for a picture icon in the upper right hand corner.

Any idea how to fix the situation?

Thats just a name the antivirus gave to that particular rootkit. Adwares arent dangerous themselves but they are enoying and take up needless space and bandwidth, they would be classified under low threats as oppose to rootkit ans smitfraud which would be high and severe threats.

I wasn't a hundred percent sure where to put this question, so I figures here would be as good a place as any. On my iPhone, I could access the convenient "mobile" version of wikipedia. Now, for some reason, I cannot, even when I put the "m" in the proper place onthe text URL.

You could always download the Wikipedia app. it's much easier!

Sorry for the delay, but it's been a busy week

I'm using a Compaq Presario 061, with Windows XP. Is that what you mean?

I am in a dire need of help.
Right now I am using a different laptop.

My ASUS laptop won't start up properly. I do not know what happened to it.
No matter what I do it doesn't go past the boot menu.
Any help?

Did you install anything big lately? When I was installing a second operating system, I had a similar problem.

That's the weird thing. I didn't download anything at all and I still had plenty of space left in my hard drive.

Anyway, earlier this morning I managed to fix it... accidentally I think.

I went into the BIOS menu and clicked... I forget what it was but afterwords I clicked save and exit and my computer was working properly again!

Alright, after an attack from adware, my computer is blocked access from IE and other browsers except Firefox. While I love firefox, IE has its perks. I used the Hiren Boot Disc and cleared all the regisry files. I no longer get pop ups from the adware, but I feel it is laying dormant, dead but still on my hard drive.

What can I do? Cleared registry files and most of my .windows_old files. But what else.

Is it still the adware blocking IE and Crome?

Something strange is going on with the font/Character encode on my computer. I visit websites and they all look now with a Times New Roman font. Mozilla keeps switching to Unicode and I try to switch it to Western windows and it keeps getting worse.

On the MSN the font is also messed up. and it won't let me change it.

I ran spybot and the system was clean

I'm having linksys router issues. I'm plugged directly into the modem right now, so that's not the problem. I can connect to linksys with excellent reception, but there is no internet access. I can connect to wireless from other Wi-Fi spots, though. I've tried resetting the router and the modem, a different cord between modem and router, turning wireless on and off, and I have no idea where to go next. It's WRT54GC model and I'm running Windows 7 on an HP laptop.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like an Router issue with your IP Address. It happens to mine a lot and the ISP goes and changes it. Since you're able to connect everywhere else it's not a Wireless card problem, must probably an IP adress/DNS problem with your modem.

Being that I'm fairly tech illiterate... what is there to do about it?

Also, we tried connecting the modem to my mother's computer (a Gateway laptop also running Windows 7) through the same cord and she can't get any internet at all. This is getting pretty frustrating.

Have you tried with any other router? Probably your router is defective or something. have it a try with another one to see if it works.

We don't have another router, so I guess we're going to have to buy one. It was inevitable but still really annoying.

For what it's worth, a tech guy my dad used to work with said that Linksys routers were one of the least reliable ones on the market. That was our first router and it worked fine for awhile, then we had nothing but problems. Upon the tech guy's advice, we ditched it for another one. We currently use a Netgear WGR614 Wireless-G Router and haven't had any problems.

On an iPhone, in the Maps section, after I punch something in (an address or a location), it saves it an tries to bring it up as an option later on. Is there any way to delete these things?

Hi, welcome to Toonzone

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
I don't know I gonna post it but i think I may had spread the disney abandoning blue sky studios like they did with fox kids/jetix propaganda onto awinger24 and now hes fears of paramount & warner bros
Europeans right now are experiencing the same Heatwave that africans face on a daily basis lol
