The DCAU Episode List Guide wtih Pre-Requisite Episodes for Background Info

Umm, it explains who the League is and what the point of it is and why Bruce Wayne hasnt talked much about it or asked Terry to work with them before.
How, exactly? It's not like tensions were running high between them. I don't remember the League even being mentioned before "The Call".
There would have to be a prequel of an 09 when Bruce left the team. Since there is no such existence in place, Destroyer was put on.
And you lost me about here. Grammar issues.
OK, so it seems Last Son part 1 should be the prequel of it all huh? I can appreciate that.
I didn't hear anyone calling it a prequel, seeing as last I checked, something has to come later as well as taking place earlier to be a 'prequel'.
I personally see Phantasm for reasons stated above and it is the first time we see him wear the cape and cowl.
Uh, no, it isn't. Phantasm was released in late 1993. The series premiered in 1992.

Sorry about the grammar part. What I was trying to communicate was that we do know that there was tension between the League and Bruce because Bruce was no longer apart of the team. He never mentioned it to Terry, probably because he felt it would take away from the mission that was more important to them both AND because a rift Bruce had with Superman.

I called it a prequel because BTAS, unlike STAS, started out with Batman being an established superhero. Phantasm explains to a great deal why he became the superhero we see him to be.

Though looking back at it, I could see the Robin origin as the kickoff in a way. However, many episodes without Robin are there, so his absence would have to be explained. It's why I keep going back to Phantasm as being the logical choice for 1st.

All true. "Destroyer" isn't necessary, however, for any of this.

Hence Phantasm is the true prequel, or at least in part - that is, meant to be seen later, but some of it takes place before anything else (although it mostly takes place midway through the series at the very least).

I wouldn't say that. Part of the beauty of the DCAU, as I stated earlier, is that we're constantly moving through the timeline. We moved times when BTAS ended.

A.) "Last Son of Krypton part 1" took us many years back in time, way before BTAS.
B.) "LSoK part 2" moved us forward to Clark's teenage years, still earlier than anything current in BTAS...
C.) Then it moved us forward to current time again when Clark grew up.
D.) "Rebirth" pushed us thirty years ahead with no warning, to see Bruce's retirement...
E.) And then twenty years more to meet Terry.
F.) "Secret Origins" pulled us back to current time, after STAS.
G.) "Epilogue" shoved us far into BB's future.
H.) "I am Legion" dragged us back to current time.

And this isn't counting time travel, flashbacks, and prologue sequences like the Spy Smasher scene.

The first Batman portrayal should be "On Leather Wings." It's the earliest Batman story in continuity. The origin aspects of "Phantasm" don't count because they're flashbacks. Like I said about the zig-zagged timeline, it's fun to be dropped into a mysterious story, with the details falling into place over time.

Yeah. Except, um, it already is.
I was refering to the fact that he has it listed together as a single episode and thought it would make for better chronilogical order if devided into its three parts.

A couple of notes on a few other omissions.

Target should be listed as a pre req for Solar Power.

And Golem is a pre req for Revenant.

Now let's see the debate rage about those 2!

:)

Someone posted this order, and its how I watched it. And it worked.

I don't know who it was, but I'm sure they will take credit. I had watched batman and superman as a kid growing up, but it's been years and i hadn't seen any of jl, jlu or bb. So I pretty much started from the beginning, and on leather wings is a perfect opening episode.

And frankly watching the first half hour of Superman before everything else makes no sense at all, that 3 part episode should be watched back to back.

The reason I watched Batman Beyond after everything else is because I had the other DVD's first, and it just made sense as it was chronologically later in the series. Seeing Terry in Once and the Future wasnt that confusing--just a teaser for what was that game. Epilogue probably would have been better to watch after the batman beyond series, but I watched it after jlu, it had a fair amount present-day stuff to justify it being justice league, not strictly a batman beyond episode.

I deviated from this list a little bit cause I like to go through a disc, not swap 'em out, especially with Batman vol 4 and the Superman stuff...but for the most part it looks accurate..

I understand why anyone would want to watch it in said order, but to be technical
he wasn't reborn in GP. It simply chronicled his rebirth. Could account for his presence in Holiday Knights, if one chooses to watch them in production order; Clayface could've been running around with no explanation as to his return, until Robin hears the story in retrospect.

What's more important to a video gamer- a great game or functional thumbs?(<-rhetorical)

Clayface's "chronicled" rebirth was in GP, sure. Yet if he robbed places for a while then went after his missing self, you'd think his priorities were backwards. He didn't consider himself a man in FoC and in JL:SS he wanted to be normal. His normal goal/self preservation should happen before he robs people. Also Sins of the Father should be before GP, since Tim Drake is shown as Robin there.

Sins of the Father
then
Growing Pains
then
Holiday Knights
....just a loose opinion without considering other episodes.

Also tjguitar, or others, good luck double checking that list.

That second list seems good in a lot of ways - interesting take on The New Batman Adventures and Superman - but I don't like its treatment of Batman Beyond. It should definitely come before JLU, if not Justice League. Among other things, even more so than "The Once and Future Thing", "Epilogue" simply doesn't work unless you've seen Bruce and Terry doing their thing for a while, and it's one episode that really deserves its full potential.

I'll agree with you wholeheartedly. I'll go one step further by saying I made the list, and it did have BB before JL. It was placed firmly between STAS' "Legacy" and JL's "Secret Origins."

My opinions vary from the majority on some things, though. Some have theorized that ROTJ takes place before "Out of the Past." But I found that A.) nothing strongly supports it, IMO, and B.) it loses a lot of its dramatic effect if not viewed as the finale.

I mixed it up a little too, just for fun, by watching "The Call" after "Unmasked." It makes a better thematic finale, but it should still be viewed before ROTJ.

I also find it more enjoyable to alternate between BB and JL, in much the same way I did STAS and TNBA. It kept the events of Batman/Superman more vivid while watching JL, and it puts some of JL's foreshadowing ahead of the BB payoffs. However, this is just my weird way of watching it, so don't let me confuse you.

Lastly, I've said this before, but I leave "Epilogue" in its place between "Divided We Fall" and "I am Legion." Plenty of people have piled on the disagreements, but it just works better for me in every way.

EDIT: I'd also like to note that the TNBA/ STAS alternations were thought out, and not just random. Every cross-reference is safely explained. Example: Roxy Rocket's origin comes in "Utimate Thrill," before her appearance in "Knight Time." It just so happened that it worked to alternate after every other ep.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was intentional. They aired at the same time, after all. (And had my favorite intro of the whole DCAU, too.)

Just to be clear, I didnt say the list I wrote originally was the actual order of it all, I just listed what I thought were the pre-requisites of everything. Therefore, one can alternate between TNBA and STAS easily. Where we differ is the whole BB issue. True, we obviously didnt need JL and JLU to understand BB since it did come earlier, but with regards to seeing everything how it plans out in the DCAU.

Basically asking someone to watch Episodes 1-3 of Star Wars before 4-6.

Oh, I'm not trying to imply that's what you meant. (Not sure if I'm one of the ones you're talking to, but I just wanted to clarify. :) )

I agree with you on "Star Wars," but not the DCAU. BB shouldn't be viewed last. Ending on BB is anticlimactic to me, after JL/U.

Hm, thinking of putting one of these together myself...

Where does one get a clean-cut list of episodes like that?

Well you could always go off of that list. They are for the most part in production order by show. I got the list from wikipedia.

This whole "chronological vs airdate" argument seems pointless to me. You own the episodes and can watch them as many times as you want, so what's stopping you from watching it by airdate one month and chronologically another? And another you can just watch your random favorites. That's the good thing about DVDs.

Anyway, shouldn't "Twilight" come before "A League of Their Own"? Didn't ALoTO start out with Batman salvaging the last functional parts of Brainiac (that he could find) from the explosion in "Twilight"?

The chronological vs. airdate thing goes further than that, though. Most of us have considered introducing someone to the Timmverse, or something to that effect. But which way should we watch it, for a first time viewer? That's where the debate comes in.

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
