"Supergirl" Season Two Talkback (Spoilers)

"Alex"
Monday, May 1, 2017 @ 8 p.m. ET/7 CT on The CW
Alex is kidnapped and the kidnapper threatens to kill her unless Supergirl releases a notorious criminal from prison.

In the comics, Dick Malverne was one of Linda Lee (Supergirl) Danvers' boyfriends. He was initially killed off years later after disclosing that he was in fact privy to Linda's dual identity.

Fast forward to today. Rick Malverne, a close friend of Alex & Kara Danvers growing up, is jealous of their "perfect" family life. Mother abused him, step-dad is in prison, and that's why he grabs Alex, to force Kara to get his step-dad out. Frustration, jealousy, and an inferiority complex add up to his betraying the sisters and resorting to blackmail. Calling him a terrorist, though, was a bit much.

Rhea's using Lena, but this will, of course, bite her on her royal butt in three weeks. Count on it. Read an online article that warns against turning Lena against Kara over this, claiming it would mirror the Clark-Lex dynamic on Smallville some 15 years ago. Of course, we know this staff of writers can't be trusted to get it right......

When an alien attacks National City, Supergirl and the DEO learn the alien is a Phorian, an otherwise peaceful race with telekinetic powers.

The Phorians? Never heard of them. More pawns for Rhea.

Speaking of Rhea, she claims she sees things clearly? No, she doesn't. She IS delusional, and she lied to her own son about how his father died. Mon-El was so ready to pull the trigger. In two weeks, we'll see if that scene is played out again.

Cat Grant returns next week. Superman to follow. Whee.

Supergirl grapples with whether or not to obey the President’s orders regarding Rhea’s latest actions.

I can't say I'm comfortable with our gang keeping the secret that the President is illegitimate (not because she's an alien, but because she isn't a natural-born citizen).

So Kara & Cat learn the President's secret. They, along with the DEO and James, are the only ones who know the truth. That Cat could see through James as Guardian wouldn't surprise anyone, either.

So not digging Superman vs. Supergirl next week in the finale. That has "cheap sweeps stunt" all over it like a bad rash. So Rhea brainwashed or lied to Kal-El. La-de-dah. Lying is what Rhea does best, though she did cop to killing her husband in taunting Kara.

So Lillian decides to help, then betrays Kara & Mon-El. What a shock. Not. Won't shake her delusions that all aliens are bad. She doesn't know the President's secret----we think----but I'm afraid she'll be back in season 3.

Anyone notice how the prosthesis David Harewood wears as "Cyborg Superman"---and, for that matter, Grant Gustin's makeup as "Future Flash"---look so cheap and weak? Henshaw looks more like a grown up Cyborg, when you think about it.

Agree Cyborg-Superman looks very cheap. Leftover parts from the Guardian suit.
Daxamites are very weak, Guardian knocked out 4 or 5 of them with ease.

Well, Guardian weakened the Daxamites with lead powder, accounting for their vulnerability. Am I the only one who thinks that Jimmy should consider a blue and gold color scheme for Guardian in reference to his concern about being too scary?

That, I think, is coming, maybe as early as next week, or in the season 3 opener.

Supergirl challenges Rhea to battle to save National City.

My brother & I were speculating over the weekend about this. We figured Rhea had used something on Superman to make him think he was fighting Zod when it was really Kara. Silver K? Like Supes, that's a new one, but this was not referenced again the rest of the night.

Rhea agrees to a fight, but when she can't get a clear, clean advantage, she has the army ready to strike. Can't win on her own. Hmmmm, that sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it, WWE fans?;) Anyway, Lillian tried another betrayal, but Lena was ready for that. In the end, Lillian, like Lex, takes credit for something that she really didn't do. Gee, what a shock.

Mon-El's pod gets sucked into a black hole. No, I don't think he's in the phantom zone. He will, however, return, sometime in season 3.

The only disappointment was that Cat & Snapper were not in the office at the same time. That could set something up for next year, too.

Hopefully Mon-El got sucked into 3017 and joined the LSH where Brainiac 5 cure him of the lead dusting.

We'll know for sure if/when he returns. Adding the Legion to the mix would be pretty cool, but remember the 3rd season stigma that has affected Arrow & Flash could create a season of stupid ideas here, too.
