Star Wars Due Again on DVD
The original trilogy will be available in a limited-edition set in Dec.

September 28, 2005 - On December 6, 2005, Fox Home Entertainment will release the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD in a new limited edition three-disc set. The collection, which arrives in stores a little over a month after the release of Star Wars Episode III - The Revenge of the Sith, will feature new artwork, modest bonus features and a handful of Easter Eggs on each disc. The versions included in this set are from the 1997 re-release, although no information is yet available about whether the films will feature the revisions made at that time, or simply contain the same (additional) revisions and changes made for the 2004 release of the trilogy on DVD. The set will be packaged in a cardboard slipcase, display the formatting of the films - either widescreen of full-frame - and retail for the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) of $49.99.

The Star Wars Trilogy (3-Disc) Limited Edition DVD set will feature the following extras:

* Star Wars: A New Hope
o Feature film presentation
o Commentary by George Lucas, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren and Carrie Fisher
o Easter Egg: credit roll

* Empire Strikes Back
o Feature film presentation
o Commentary by George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, Lawrence Kasdan, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren and Carrie Fisher
o Easter Egg: credit roll

* Return of the Jedi
o Feature film presentation
o Commentary by George Lucas, Lawrence Kasdan, Ben Burtt, Dennis Muren and Carrie Fisher
o Easter Egg: credit roll

Check out the artwork below for both the pan-and-scan and widescreen packaging of the Star Wars Trilogy (3-Disc) Limited Edition DVDs:

Additionally, the fils will all feature Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, Dolby Surround & THX, as well as Spanish and French subtitles.

Hopefully it'll contain the 1997 edition of the DVDs and none of the new changes, although I don't want to bring up that whole argument again.

Releasing an entire trilogy for the sake of a few measly special features is nothing short of a travesty. Had they used this set as a temptation for those who don't yet have it would've been a wiser strategy (i.e, make it too cheap to refuse those who are curious to see what all the fuss is about, and those who've been debating whether or to pick it up or not)

I hope this flops. If they're going to release stuff that already have SPECIAL editions, make them count. This is just a waste of space in the store.

Any idea when the ultimate edtion - or whatever they end up calling all six movies - will be making an appearance?

so there's VHS versions of the Special Edition and Regular Edition and now the DVDs get the same treatment .... that's alot of star wars boxes people are going to have (Special Edition, Regual Edition, The "Ultimate" Collection)

Look, unless George Lucas provides the hardcore fans the original ORIGINAL versions of the films from the 70's to the 80's without the added garbage, I don't think they're going to bite. I know I won't unless I get what I want.

They're not going to yank the Super Duper Special Feature-Packed Version from stores just because this bare-bones version is arriving, are they?

Hmmmm...

Yet another Box Set for the original Star Wars Trilogy, and it's barely been a year since the old one's been made. The MSRP's the same (?), and the Bonuses have been severely scaled down. Not a Particuarly Appetizing package, esepcially since practically everyone in the US owns the old trilogy Box set. I can only guess that Nintendo is moonlighting in Lucasfilms' research and development.

I considered buying this for a moment, until I realized that it's still the "Special Edition" version that was released on dvd last year, not the true Original Trilogy... when will Han shoot first!

George Lucas has said that he has no interest in releasing the original version of the trilogy unfortunatley. He does not think they would sell.I've been wondering why there have been no deleted scenes sections on the Special Edition DVDs? I know they exist, but why won't they include them as extras if they have deleted scenes sections on the episodes 1-3 DVDs?

Isn't this just the same package as last year, but without the 4th bonus disc? Fox tends to do this a lot with its movies, where the deluxe 2-disc set is shelved for a bare-bones edition later on (thus giving more meaning to the "special edition" moniker).

The "limited edition" title is misleading, but its basically the same thing. It might've been wiser for Fox to start selling the 3 movies individually, but whatever.

BLOODY HELL.

If this thing is 50 dollars again... *sighs at other Trilogy set*

Crap, I'm just going to wait for it to become 30 dollars or something.

its a limited release, if you have gone to any SW forum or convention you'd know how much that is all fans whine about, a release without the new stuff, how come they dont release it a lot cheaper? because then sales of the newer version will drop, most people won't know the difference and go for the cheap version and most people would think the small differences are not big enough to make them spend more for the special edition. This is targeted at hardcore fans. will it sell? who knows like i said that is all they've whined about...

I'd like to have the original set but the price is too much, i am not that hardcore of a fan, it would have been nice to just have them as a special feature in the old release but of course Lucas wants to make money out of it.

Wow, that is beyond stupid, since the only reason he'd have to say he doesn't want to re-release them is because countless people are asking to see the original versions.
I haven't gotten the series yet, maybe I'll pick this up...

If you need to see the special features soooo bad on this new set...save yourself the 50 bucks, rent it for a weekend, then return it and lavish the set you probably bought last year. I know I don't need yet ANOTHER Star Wars trilogy set sitting on my shelf; especially when the one they released last year will do just fine.

...also...aren't they releasing 1-6 in November with Episode 3? It doesn't make sense for someone who wants the sets...to buy this set in December over the 1-6 set in November...

I'm seeing no logic here...

oh, yeah, i forgot...they'll probably do that. I might pick that one, then, and get the star wars movies outta the way with one fell blow. I always am tempted to get them, but never do.

Eh, I own the first set, and I will not buy another, especially for an inferior set. The only way I'd be willing to spend more money on the OT is if... well, for no reason as I am perfectly happy with the set I have.

Not buying it back, especially since it doesn't include the stellar "Empire of Dreams". I think Stu said it best. Uh, not like the REST of you didn't have good points, though. ;)

He doesn't do that anymore. He just thinks hard about baseball.

Anyway, aren't those the same commentaries that were on last year's release? So there's nothing new on this one.

han would shoot first in this version.

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
