RIP - Joe Barbera

Will Cable Pay Tribute to Joe Barbera?

Does anyone know if any of the cable channels will pay tribute to the passing of Joseph Barbera? Will Boomerang go dark for a few hours, or play a Tom and Jerry marathon in his honor? Will TCM run a marathon of any films such as Anchors Aweigh or Charlotte's Web?

There goes another legend. That's sad!:crying:

RIP Joe Barbera

You will be missed!

There has never been any doubt in my mind that Joe Barbera is one of the greatest in the history of animation. Many of the shows he and William Hanna had a hand in creating and/or producing still rank among the most memorable cartoons ever. From "The Flintstones" becoming the best-rated and longest-running animated series in primetime (up until passed by "The Simpsons" a few years back) to the continuing success of characters like "Tom and Jerry," undeniably by far the most famous cat-and-mouse duo in existence.

For good and for bad, for a time Hanna-Barbera was the TV animation industry. They've made great shows, they've made some utterly forgettable ones. But no one, regardless of whether you've ever worked in the animation industry or not, could deny the legacy William Hanna and Joseph Barbera leave behind.

R.I.P., Joseph Barbera. May your legacy remain untarnished for the rest of time. :crying:

Man, it seems like all the Golden Age cartoonists have gone to the great frame in the sky...both Hanna and Barbera, Walt Disney, Chuck Jones...

You entertained my parents' generation, my generation, and perhaps when I have kids, they'll also likely be watching your creations. Hardly anyone else can say that.

i hope theres a marathon in his honer and if there is ill be sure to watch it.

They're gone

Bill and Joe were a couple of creative guys that I became aware of in 1957 and I have been following their creations ever since. When the other adolesents were swooning over Elvis or the Beatles, I was enamored with H-B cartoons.
The ease of access to information, in the last 20 years, has brought me a wealth of data on my two heros that I had constantly sought in the years previous. Now they're gone. A part of my youth has gone with them. I doubt if they can be replaced.
My peace has been said. THANX

Sad news, just very sad. I mean, Hanna-Barbara represents a huge chunk of animation history. Until recently, with the arrival of Pixar, the animation hierarchy went:
Walt Disney
Warner-Bros
and Hanna-Barbara
(flieschers would probably be fourth on the list).

I mean the body of work was legion: The Jetsons, Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Scooby-Doo, andmost importantly Tom & Jerry. God Bless you Joe Barbara. You'll forever be missed.

Wow, OMG that sucks. RIP sir.

CN has new promos for this. They draw him(in Black and White), and say something about Tom and Jerry. The bottom of the screen says "Joe Barbera," and then there is a white screen with black text that reads: "We will miss you"

A great way to honor a ledgend.

R.I.P. Joe Barbera

You know this is the last thing we fans of the great classics and the people that made them need. Its bad enough that everything we believe in is being parodied and thrown out of the window in all of these awful new shows, that none of the younger generations dosen't understand the stuff we grew up with and that the newer animators don't care about the cartoons that established the industry, is that we have yet again lost another legendary icon that help shape the foundation of the classics that he or she established.

Now I know that death is something that sometimes can't be prevented, its just that like many other lovers of good animation, I am truly sadened of this unwanted travesty in our lives. I just can't stomach the fact that the newer animators is going to use this travesty to use in there show to hype there twisted sense of humor. Why do they do this? Legendary icons like Chuck Jones and Osama Tesuka never used a tragic event to make there work funny, and neither did Bill or Joe. I'm sorry that I sound like I don't care what happened its just that I have so much respect for the things that I grew up with. You have to understand that I was raised to have respect for people that improved our lives and made us feel better. I never grew up with animation like "South Park" , or "Family Guy", and to this day I still like things like The Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Classic Disney Films, The Ghostbusters (Both the Filmation and Columbia versions), AND THE SIMPSONS.

Still, I can't beleve that a good man like Joseph Barbera is gone. I hope that his work and William Hanna's work will still be considered one of the greatest works in animation history.

May there art live on FOREVER!

Farewell to a legend.

Thanks for bringing the SuperFriends to the airwaves. I owe you one.

Ever since 2004. Ever since 2004 it's been changed like that.
I agree with you. I have since 2004. I wanted the old cartoon network which showed Hanah-Barbera cartoons. I hated and still hate the new cartoons. They have no respect for the newer cartoons. I can not belive how the younger generation DOES not know about the 60's - 90's.
I have pushed myself to the point where I have even cried over the changes.

Recently, I found some tapes of 90 - 2002/2003 tapes.
I watched them and remembered the clasics again.
The ones I have so longed to have back.

Shortly after, I found out about Barbera's death.
I guess I have gave him his dues.

So,

Rip Joseph Barbera 1911 - 18/12/06
May you rest in peace.
You were the greatest. You and William Hanah both.
May your cartoons and animation live on in the hearts of
all of it's fans forever, and may you be respected as one
of the greatest animators ever.

This really suprised me when I heard about. I know he was old, but I guess he just seemed immortal for what he's done. Hope his family is doing ok.
