Proposed plot for Toy Story 3 (Potential Spoilers)

From the amazing Animated-Movies.com here is the proposed plot for Toy Story 3.

Rumoured Plot for Toy Story 3
Jim Hill Media reveals that "the film deals with a subject that Pixar has reportedly gotten a lot of mail about: what happens when Andy grows up. The folks at Pixar--particularly Lasseter--reportedly wants to end the Toy Story story with all the characters in a safe place, where they’d always be cared for and loved." The movie's story would be based on the original treatment for Toy Story, written in the Spring of 1991. "Tinny (a tin toy based on the title character in Pixar’s 1989 Academy Award winning short, Tin Toy) and his friend, Dummy (a ventriloquist dummy modeled after Charlie McCarthy that occasionally wears a cowboy hat), have survived encounters with obnoxious dogs, obsessive toy collectors, being separated from the kids that love them, even tumbling out a garbage truck into speeding traffic… And they really deserve a break. After their long ordeal, these characters deserve to find a loving home where there will always be kids to play with them. And--miracles of miracles--they actually find this wonderful place. Right next door to where the obnoxious dog lives. It’s a pre-school with a kindergarten. Tinny and Dummy (along with their new friends, Slinky Worm and Wheezy) eventually their way into the kindergarten class room. Here, the other toys tell them that their troubles are finally over. Why for? Because in this room, there will always be children who are willing to play with Tinny & Dummy. And each year, a brand new crop of kids arrives to shower the playthings with affection and attention. And the best part of the deal is… The children go home every day once school lets out. And the toys get the entire summers off. To rest. To vacation. Play with their fellow playthings. Whatever. This is where Lasseter & Co. supposedly want to leave Woody, Buzz and the crew to be at the end of Toy Story 3. In a place where there’ll always be kids to play with them. Where the audience knows that they’ll be loved and cared for years yet to come."

While the plot sounds like it could make a good film and the cast of the original Toy Story films have already stated that they would love to come back it doesn't look like it will happen - mainly because the 1997 contract between Disney and Pixar doesn't include sequels as part of the five films Pixar owes Disney. However, Eisner is apparently considering another option.

As for Disney, Eisner’s actually toying with the idea of making Toy Story 3 WITHOUT Pixar’s involvement. In an interview earlier this year, Uncle Mike was actually quoted as saying 'We have the right to do a sequel irrespective of the two deals [Disney made with Pixar]. I don’t need a new deal [with Pixar] to make Toy Story 3. I can get [the] five movies [that Pixar owes Disney] plus Toy Story 3.'"

If this happens and it doesn't get created by the talented Pixar crew it would only prove that Disney is willing to destroy not only their own classics but also the creations of another company. Not only that but it's almost guaranteed that the animation behind a Disney led Toy Story 3 would not be up to par with the previous movies.

If Disney does TS3 without Pixar's involvement, I won't watch it. Any TS story that doesn't involve Pixar or at the very least the creators I will consider out of continuity.

I've already started boycotting ANY DTV sequel Disney puts out. Walt must be spinning in his cryogenic chamber at the horrors of what his company is doing.

The storyline reminds me of the The Brave Little Toaster and I don't know if that is a good thing.

The fear that Eisner might make Toy Story 3 without Pixar is slowly becoming fact.

There should be a ride at Disneyworld called "Mr. Eisner's Basket to Hell" because it seems like each day that's what he continues to do to Disney. The man needs to be fired now!(or killed, whatever :p)

Well, I like this. Disney is being bold, let's see what they are made of. Who really made the Toy Story franchise anyway? The only problem I have with this is that Pixar still has a contract with Disney for those number of films, one of them could easily be TS 3, unless of course, the movie deal was TS 1, TS2, Monster's Inc., and A Bug's Life.

Later.

But the contract does not include sequels, and Disney did not create the Toy Story idea, Pixar did, and sold it to Disney, so it would be a case of them having no idea what to do with it. It would very similar to all the cheap-quels they are making, ruining the original story, and trying to make it hip for the kids. Maybe Mrs. Potato head will say "You go girl" at some point in TS3 if Disney did let Pixar make it, or Slinky Dog say "that is whack" Got to make it cool for all the kids out there, and forget any heart from the original concept is just Disney's way, and it will eventually be their undoing.

Here's an interesting question though - wouldn't Pixar need to give Disney the right to use the characters within Toy Story? If I remember correctly I believe that the concept and all of the characters are registered to both Disney and Pixar - hence the reason you see Disney/Pixar listed on Toy Story 1 + 2, Monsters, Inc., A Bugs Life and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (which Pixar gave permission for but didn't have time to do).

Like I said before I don't think Disney should be allowed to create a third Toy Story without Pixar. Considering that Disney was originally a distribution partner for five Pixar movies I don't think it would be fair to their argreement to create a third film and I wonder how most of the returning cast would feel about that as well. Also the people at Pixar didn't know that Toy Story 2 wouldn't count - primarily because it got the big screen treatment instead of the DTV release that was originally planned for the film. Eisner has insisted that he would not count Toy Story 3 as part of the contract because he wants all new properties - perhaps to sequelize these after the contract with Pixar expires (after all if he could do it with Toy Story what would stop him from doing a Monsters, Inc. 2 or Bugs Life 2 or Finding Nemo 2?).

Also a note of interest - Steve Jobs is already preparing for life without Disney - pre-production has already started on what will be their first Disney-free film and is currently scheduled to be released in 2006.

That's another thing. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, while a good idea, was very poorly executed with horrible animation and semi-weak stories. Zurg, instead of being the bas ass villain he was made out to be in TS movies, was nothing more than a quip spouting idiot. Casting Wayne Knight as Zurg didn't help matters either.

If Disney did get ahold of the TS franchise, expect the series to be flushed down the toilet.

I liked TS 1, never saw number 2. Which is better?

I like the first one more, personally, but both are excellent films.

If Disney does TOY STORY 3, methinks it'll be just for the money. PIXAR just wants to tell some stories - good stories. I'm still out to lunch as to whether FINDING NEMO will be any good (the teaser trailer didn't impress me at all) but hey, it's still possible.

I was always under the assumption that FINDING NEMO was the second-to-last movie Pixar is making for Disney. There's still time to fit in a final installment of the Toy Story trilogy. Then again, I don't want to watch the movie if the original cast and crew aren't involved; if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

If Disney wants to sequelize everything, come up with your own story and do the DTV treatment; it's certainly working well for all the classics they're already butchered with a "second installment"...Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Little Mermaid, Peter Pan...

The only time I recall them doing it right was with the Aladdin sequel...the 3rd one, not that pitiful RETURN OF JAFAR one.

Anyway, I'm getting off track...don't touch TOY STORY unless PIXAR is doing it! End of story!

If you liked #1, you should definitely give #2 a look.
Everybody seems to agree; as sequels go, TS2 is well above average. The freshness is a bit reduced, but it compensates with several stunningly well-done sequences, and lots of good jokes.

It also gives us the info on Woody. I won't go into any detail though.

And FRASIER WAS THE PROSPECTOR!

Gotta love any animated movie that has Sideshow Bobs voice actor in the cast. While I think Toy Story 2 has the better story, the first is my favorite as it's more fun and I can watch it again and again. Would definatly suggest checking out 2 if you haven't yet.

Toy Story 3 sounds pretty good, although I'm sure some would complain that this idea with the toys finding a permanent home would be the "typical soft Disney ending". Hopefully, Disney won't make this movie on their own. Other then the Alladin sequels and the so-so Extreme Goofy Movie, the track record for Disney sequels aren't very good. Would love to see this made by Pixar though as we almost never see an animated film series reach their third film, especially in an actual trilogy that has an ending.

It could be me but Toy Story 3 is sounding like The Brave Little Toaster. A bunch of objects that come to life and look for their owner (who is too old to need them anymore).

Anyway, the plot seems thin for a whole movie. But it can change between now and when they make it (if they do). I was just watching Monster's Inc and the treatment of that story was very, very different from what ended up in the movie.

I will NOT live with TS3 being made out of Pixar animation studios.
Remember Dinosaur anyone? REMEMBER?

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
