8/12/22: I thought this was excellent! Really gets the franchise back on track with 99.9% stand alone story with a back to basics approach but still adding something new to the mythos without retreading. Loved the parallelism of both Naru and the Predator basically out to prove themselves to their tribes and going through a sacred hunt. Like Naru falling into the bog or using those totsiyaa petals to mask herself might be done again in the finale but nope, she ultimately uses the bog as a two pronged trap. And the way she outsmarts the Predator is not by using the technology directly against him but in sly way positioning his helmet so that he signs his own death warrant. Also really happy the dog made it. And the one small continuity tie-in was like the cherry on top of a highly entertaining cake by the time we get to it at the end of the movie. Favorite nod was probably Taabe saying the same thing Dutch said in the first movie, "If it bleeds, we can kill it." Also dug how the end title sequence hints at what happened after and/or what's in store if there's a sequel.

8/9/23: Trachtenberg comments on Prey getting 6 Emmy nominations.

8/17: Prey 4K/Blu-ray home entertainment release is October 3.

THAT’S more like it! After Shane Black’s abysmal reboot, this a back-to-basics take on the franchise. Some of the effects work looks like it would’ve benefited from a bigger budget, but it had a spunky heroine, gorgeous cinematography, some meat-and-potatoes action, and slick direction.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
