Nintendo 3DS - General Talkback Thread 2

A wild FILSAMECH has appeared on your Streetpass Mii Plaza, or at least, in America location to hype for E3. Like other special visitors to your Streetpass Mii Plaza, they come with a full set of Puzzle Swap panels, and all that other neat stuff. Thanks to him, I was able to actually complete one of my panels. I hope that during E3 we get more Nintendo people like this. But by then, they'll probably have added a new Puzzle Swap panel.

I could definitely see Nintendo doing one for Mario Kart 8 and the the 3DS Mario Golf game. I also wonder if Nintendo will do a McDonald's-based one similar to the one in Japan to coincide with the Pokemon XY Happy Meal toys coming out near the end of the month.

I can't find an article about it, but Wired's Chris Kohler just tweeted this:

Wow, what unannounced 3DS game could be big enough to merit its own 90 minute press briefing on Wednesday of E3? Interesting.

Incidentally, Nintendo's E3 digital event is scheduled for 6/10/14 at Noon Eastern Time / 9 AM Pacific (on Tuesday).

Edit: Via GameXplain:

Looks like Nintendo's holding 2 Developer Discussions at E3, one for Smash Bros with Sakurai on Tuesday and another for an unannounced 3DS game on Wed! What could it be?

Zelda? Pokemon? Fire Emblem? All things that come to mind.

im ready for whatever this comes to

The first two I have no idea why you're even thinking of. If they announced a Zelda 3DS title (unlikely this early) it would most likely be Majora's Mask 3D, which would not warrant a session, because it's just a remastered port. Pokemon? They just announced Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire...

Anyway, I'm not even going to attempt to hope what it will be. Nintendo actually has just about every franchise I care about - if not all - covered on the 3DS now. I could see it being Metroid, but I don't want to get anybody's hopes up. It'll probably be something Mario.

If they hadn't just announced Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, I could have seen Pokemon as a possibility, especially if they were going to release the third version or sequels to X/Y, but since I can't see them making a big deal for a spin-off title, I doubt that it would be a Pokemon related announcement.

Where's it written that a franchise besides Mario can't have more than one 3DS offering?

Well, it's given going by the history of releases. Series like Animal Crossing only get one release per console/handheld (at least beyond the 'first' Animal Crossing/Forest).

Of course, regarding several series, such as Pokemon and Zelda, a couple of, or even several releases is possible, and I never even implied otherwise. All I was meaning is that many of the titles I was most interested going into the system, like Animal Crossing and Mario Kart are only one per system.

Well, it could be an entirely new IP. Maybe a co-production with a 3rd party since Nintendo stated there are more of those in the works.

A brand new 3DS is arriving to Japan called..."New 3DS". Featuring more CPU, a C-stick, improved battery life, and even 3D that is viewable at an angle. The catch: some games are exclusive only to "New 3DS", like Xenoblade Chronicles...yay.

So, this is similar to the Game Boy Color, which could play original black and white GB games, but had exclusive ones made for it. It was quickly replaced after about 3 years with the Game Boy Advance, then the DS, and it appears to me that Nintendo is going back to that '3 years and then a replacement" strategy for the 3DS. I find that New 3DS name to be awful IMO, because there's already so many 3DS names out there. Why not the "4DS" as silly as it sounds, at least would be easy for consumers to realize it's a new system.

It's not really new though; this is more like the DSi. I'm sure they'll come out with the true next-gen DS two years after this. Nintendo pulls this scheme because it works.

Eh... I wouldn't really compare the New 3DS to the Gameboy Color. The Gameboy Color was a bigger upgrade (not just color, but the visuals went up a whole lot) and had a large collection of exclusive titles. It was practically its own generation.

A better (but still not perfect) comparison would be the DSi.

Yeah, this new 3DS does sound more like the DSi rather than the Game Boy Color in terms of an upgrade. I believe that there were a few titles also exclusive to the DSi, but not that many, especially compared to Game Boy Color games. This is more of an upgrade rather than a brand new handheld system. It sounds like a better upgrade than the DSi was at least, but unless they put out a game exclusively for the new 3DS that I want to play or my 3DS breaks, I don't think I'll be getting this system.

Damn it Nintendo. Just bought one last December and now I have to buy a new one (I know you going to a make new Metroid for it I just know it).

I wonder why they are waiting until next year to release it outside of Japan instead of just releasing it around the same time like usual?

Anyone think the 7th gen Pokemon games are being made for this?
