From what I've seen, the new Nickelodeon logo uses a custom font type made specifically for the logo.

Yeah, I don't think it is a font, at least not yet. It seems to be custom made for Nick's use alone.
And if/when it ever does become a font for commercial use, you can bet you won't find it floating around the internet for free. The best fonts you have to pay for.

The font in the new logo was custom made and not availiable for purchase.

Precisely. It's definitely customized.
The new logo also superficially recalls the very first Nick logo, if you can find that.

Since the logos are customized, I made a font of the logos using FontCreator. I used the letters from the fonts and edited them. It has it's own numbers, some symbols (mostly main). It also has it's own Cyrillic letters. Some symbols may appear in Comic Sans MS, since I used it as a template.

A little bit of a late post, but I think the font download looks like it's been traced a little rough. No offense, CNR. I've made an SVG file of a font concept, but it hasn't been converted into TTF format yet. I call it "Litebulb". However, I haven't added the numbers or accented letters/vowels yet, but I will eventually. The file is in a compressed folder. Click on the preview image to download:
