Jack Thompson Appreciation Thread

Gee then Maybe I shouldn't play Flight Sim X then..

My biggest problem with Jack is how he labels every gamer as a misfit. See, even if you're a civil gamer, to Jack you're damaged goods.

Gee does this mean that since I play 2K Games/Firaxis' Sid Meier's Railroads! does this make me "Damaged Goods?" Or how about Infroversion's Defcon? How about EA Games/Maxis' The Sims 2 (Any edition)?

Well if that's the case, then I think he'd even brand Microsoft's Flight Simulator X ( as in the Number '10') fans "Damaged goods."

But that's "Wacky Jack" Thompson for you.. Just lumping everyone into the same cart just so he can call even Civil gamers "Damaged Goods."

I certainly think Jack's intentions are admirable to try and make the industry safer for kids and parents but the way he goes about threatening and taking personal vendettas against Rockstar is not very wise.

I don't think he thinks of his son as an aggressive individual. He says that more violent games make people feel more aggressive, which may be true.

Except that aggression has been a part of human behavior since forever, because there was a point in time which there was no violent media. Now chances are, that the people who become aggressive after playing violent games may have been aggressive by nature.

I mean I've never shown aggression after playing Goldeneye 007 or any arcade shooting games.

What he ignores is that aggressive feelings rarely ever translate into aggressive actions, and someone would have to be messed up in the first place to be influenced by a game to hurt someone.

You said that he makes the statement for the media, but such an accusation shouldn't be treated as fact on the news given the public buys into sterotypes faster than Bugs Bunny buying carrots.

It's been a while, and Jack has done the stupidest thing so far. He claims there's a conspiracy between the game companies and the U.S. Department of Defense. He knows he's going to be disbarred in the spring, so he's opening his mouth and making idiotic complaints before his power and credibility are taken.

Blaming a whole industry for three games? Wow. That'd be like suing all computer companies because of a few bad websites.

Jack's latest "lawsuit" is against the Omaha police chief because of the mall shooting, and he blames Vice City's "mall shooting". He just won't quit, will he? I think it's time for some music dedicated to our "favorite" anti-gamer lawyer.

Actually, if I remember correctly, he did try to sue the makers of The Sims 2. His allegation was that there were graphic depictions of nudity if players some how managed to remove the mosaic that is shown the Sim is nude. Of course, his assertion was wrong because all you saw when you did manage to remove it was Barbie/Ken-like nudity.

Then there's all the "detailed" player skins you can find. But those are all player-made and have nothing to do with game companies.

I'm not sure if I explained it right and I'm sure you can find better sources on this.

Jack's Toting an AK47, loaded with Blanks...

And that is the whole silly farce Jack has cooked up.. He's suing Maxis for this issue when the real issue are the folks creating this stuff to be used. That's the Whole Stupid idea jack has.. (Oh sure while we're at it let's sue Barbie and Ken!)

The whole thing just boils down to one thing. Namely the fact that Jack has a lot of targets to shoot at and he's the one toting the AK47...But you know what? He's shooting blanks...

Jack Thompson, in Soviet Russia, Take-Two sues you!

And in America too, apparently:

http://gonintendo.com/?p=33504

Take-Two said:
Thompson has a history of making multiple threats of legal action, whether substantiated or not, both against (Take Two) as well as the retailers who purchase the video games and offer them for sale to the public. Thompson has made such threats again in connection with Manhunt 2 and GTAIV…

So successful has Thompson been in exposing the fraud and criminal conduct of Take-Two on the national stage… that a corporate coup by 46% of Take-Two’s shareholders is set for March 23, which nearly all financial analysts… are predicting will be successful and which will result in the firing of all Take-Two management and the entire board…

What does an internal civil war in the company have to do with Suing Jack Thompson? Color me confuzed.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a non-gamer who takes out Jack Thompson permanently. Remember when Steve Irwin was killed? People assumed that he was going to die by crocodile, not stingray.

I'm not sure if I would laugh at that irony of that or just praise the heavens if that ever happened. I highly doubt that I would be sad if Jack dies from something not natural. But the only things remains... Who will fill in his shoe for him after he dies?

Honestly, why anybody would be glad that a lawyer who raises a fuss about the occasional Grand Theft Auto is beyond me. Jack Thompson leaving the scene would not make the stereotype against gamers any better, and it's foolish to celebrate someone's death in the first place.

The only people who can change the prejudice against gaming are the gamers themselves.

Everyone pray that this happens

Jack Thompson's been busy again, but this time he has pissed off the wrong people. The Florida Supreme Court is now getting annoyed with our "favorite" blame everything on games lawyer. Here's the article.

This could be the beginning of the end of his career, so let me just say this: R.I.H. Jack Thompson's career, 1977-2008.
