Is this film worth 600 million dollars?

Is any film worth that much? With total marketing and distribution costs running 300 million, plus the rumored 300 million production costs, is it really worth it? ....Does it matter? as long as people enjoy the film?

I am not sure. That is a lot of money for making and releasing a film. But they have said that always. 45 years ago, a film called Cleopatra cost 25 million to make, and they said the same thing..It is an odd discussion, since it opens tonite and many will be there. Nevertheless, why not bring it up?
..If this has been discussed here, under this title, I am sorry. Mods may remove it if they desire....sun.

Well, together the trilogy costs about six hundred million but the third film is $258 million (the most expensive film ever!).

How I got the 600 million figure..

I used the 600 million figure because they say that marketing, and release costs about double the costs of production. The studio says that it costs under 300 million, but sometimes the studios lie about those kinds of things.

One story I read said total costs, would exceed 700 million, but that was at the high end of the estimate. I honestly don't know. Perhaps down the road,we will all find out. Anyway. it might be worth some posts to discuss it.

I have very mixed feelings about this. I know that it is their money, and they can spend it anyway they want, on this film or five films. But when they commit that kind of money, the price of going to the movies just keeps going up. A family of four could easily spend 60 dollars for a night out at the movies..It would be much less if they went to a daytime show, and got the lower price, but some do go at night. And we know that so little of the price of admission goes the owner of the theaters. They got to make their money on the popcorn, food and beverages..Oh well. sun

So you just assume they're lying, and round up?

1) Budget is 258 mill, that is at the very least, fact.
2) I don't know about distribution, but they've said repeatedly the marketing costs are lower for this one than both 1 and 2, because this is an established franchise.

If anything, I'd wager the total costs are somewhere between 400-475 million, which is not bad by any means considering how much of a money-maker this franchise is.

Studios giving inaccurate numbers is common practice. What is it they say, Forrest Gump just became profitable last year? (Something like that.)

It's a reasonable assumption, but it's not necessarily a "fact".

Oh I know, but seriously....600 million in total costs for a movie? Doesn't that sound *remotely* exaggerated?

As a given budget, I'd say it could be stated as fact. Of course it can always be a lil' bit higher, but something as drastic 50 million more? Doubtful.

"Fact" is a pretty strong word.

Studios have lied about 50 million in the past, and they'll do it again.

There's not much point in debating budget/gross numbers provided by studios because they have so many reason not to be honest. That's not to say that they are being dishonest, but it's not worth arguing over.
Budgets/receipts are a famously tricky grey area in Hollywood.

If a solid majority of moviegoers feel they got their money's worth out of going to see it, and the international box office totals plus merchandising and DVD sales, etc. are greater than the production and promotion budgets, and everyone involved in the making and promotion of the film got paid a fair wage, and no spiders were harmed in the making of the film, then, yes. Otherwise, no. Next question?

How about "How long will it take to make back said "600 Million" Dollars put into the film?" I have a feeling this opening weekend will get 100,000 million for the film (at least) And by the time May ends it will at least be over 200,000 million for Spider-Man 3 just here in the states. World wide gross will probably reach said 600,000 million by early June at least. And will have been worth it since if there was ever a cash cow, this would be the biggest hunk of beef on the entire grill. Well besides perhaps Pirates 3 which will probably be raking in a lot as well.

Oh well, someone set up a poll..

I guess I voted no..reluctantly..but I guess it will take 3 or 4 weeks to really find out if the assumption raised by Mynd Hed is correct..that being....."Did a majority of the viewers really enjoy the film."""". and that is what counts..So we will need to read the thread on how good/bad it is..I guess that even seeing the 500 million number is incredible to me.

..That is half a billion....:eek:...and that is a lot of money..But it isn't mine, and it isn't public money so what???
..If they lose a lot of money,, well then, no matter what is said, no Spider Man 4 for a long while..
Just like we waited for years for another ep of Superman.. But it is an interesting idea..I guess a real question that needs to be asked, is how many people will go back again and again to see it.. That is how they get those incredible numbers..I recall reading about Titanic, that it was a young woman's film. That many went back 3 or 4 times to see it early on in its run...That is what is going to have to happen to get to 600 million..We will see in a few weeks.........Happy spiders to all.........sun...

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
