So anyone buying the dvd to Hideaki Anno's masterpiece which saw him debut as an anime director?

And is there any word yet on the EOE movie remastered japanese version coming this way anytime soon?

I'm one of the few that has yet to see it in its entirety (rented it awhile back and it was badly scratched didn't even make it past 40 mins. before it froze). I was going to buy it until I heard about the remastered version and knew it would make its way here eventually. I really hate repurchasing anything I even waited for the Platinum edition of EVA before getting it and it's the reason why I've held off on buying EOE but this is seriously getting annoying I can barely wait any longer.

Your right, i should change the topic to Evangelion prototype since thats a much more accurate statement.

The similarities are striking though between the two series Gunbuster and Evangelion:

• Is Shinji just the male version of Noriko?
• Isn't Misato almost identical to Kazumi (big sis) in both appearance and persona?
• Isn't Gendou (Shinji's Father) a clone of Coachy (the authoritative figure)?
• Kaji (the love interest) a clone of Smith?
• Asuka (the red hair jealous type) a clone of Jung Freud?
• Angels (with their unexplained origins) mirroring the mysterious appearance of the invading space creatures?

Shinji never got over his little issues, Misato's face isn't even shaped like Kazumi's is, Coach is not insane like Gendou, and as far as I know the space invaders weren't pretentiously tied into biblical prophecy. So no, no, no, and....no

I'd just flat out remove any mention in the title and have something in your post like "The series which in many ways could be considered the prototype for GAINAX's later Evangelion".

I would expand further on the similarities between Gunbuster and Evangelion but i simply don't want to post spoilers and have it ruin it for all those newbies out there. Here is a thread made in 2004 which describes a lot of the points I've already made:

Anyway Gunbuster and Evangelion are practically the same show in my eyes with only minor differences separating them. Both compliment each other and actually help understand the two shows better.

j/k. The OVA series is old-school, and that's all the explanation you need about the ending.

Remember Scryed? The anime had two main characters deliberately. One character is the modern angsty conflicted male. The other is the old school "I don't care about the complicated stuff! I will save the girl and just you try and stop me!!!" kind of male. It's ironic Gainax was the one to, though not invent, spread the popularity of the angsty main protagonist.
