From The Digital Bits:

We're hearing new reports about a possible 4-disc Gone with the Wind: 65th Anniversary Special Edition that's in the works at Warner Bros. Word is that the title has been announced already for release in Germany on 11/5. We DO know that such a title had been planned as at least a 2-disc special edition (click here for a list of Warner titles on the way) and that it has undergone the "ultra restoration" process at the studio. We've also been hearing whispers about the release from industry insiders. This would be the first retail confirmation of the title, and the first time we've heard about the release being expanded to 4 discs. We'll keep you up to date on this as we learn anything new.

Still a rumor, but it would be a fitting package for the greatest American epic motion picture!

This sounds long winded. I doubt there's enough special features in existance to warrent a 4-disc of GWTW.

Well, there's nothing certain for what they will put on the release, but a 4-disc release isn't unlikely.

The film will probably take up two of the discs. Given Warner's past efforts, the film will likely have the original 1.0 mono, the 5.1 remix, commentaries (rumored that Olivia DeHaviland recorded a commentary), and a music-only track (which is possible).

The 3rd disc could feature the feature-length documentary on the film (which is 2 hours long) and Hollywood: The Selznick Years (52 min.) If Warner produces a new featurette for the DVD, that would go there, too.

The 4th disc could feature the screen tests, outtakes, trailers, related cartoons, premeire footage, interviews, clips from the 1960's widescreen release, newsreels, and special effects footage.

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Actually, I think it's pretty cool. I just wanted to say that.

Glad I put off buying the bare-bones release that's been out for some time now.

They might as well throw in the DTS track from the Summer '98 rerelease in that case.

UPDATE!

We're getting it on November 9th. And it will indeed be a whoping four discs long (two for the movie of course.)

Here's the specs:

The movie will have the original mono (DD 1.0) and a new DD 5.1 remix. Rudy Behlmer (also did commentaries for Criterion's Notorious, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and Casablanca: SE), and the video transfer will be a brand new Ultra-Resolution one (like Singin' in the Rain: SE, Meet Me in St. Louis, and The Adventures of Robin Hood). The first part of the film will be on disc 1 (Overture to Intermission), the second on disc 2 (entr'act to exit music).

The extras (discs 3 and 4):

- The Making of a Legend documentary (feature-length, from 1989)
- Clark Gable: A King Remembered (hour-long doc)
- Viven Leigh: Scarlett and Beyond (hour-long doc)
- Melanie Remembers: Olivia DeHavilland on GWTW (45 min. doc)
- Behind-the-scenes footage
- Advertising materials
- 1939, 1961, and Civil War Centennial premeires
- Foreign language samples
- International prologue
- Complete 1939 roadshow booklet reproduction
- "more" (probably the screen tests, trailers, newsreels, photo galleries, etc)

Christopher Plummer is even the "host" on the DVD, doing the introductions and narration.

(All of this info came from DavisDVD.com)

Will the Merrie Melody "Confederate Honey" be on the set?

Despite "Confederate Honey" being a Warner cartoon, Warner doesn't stick to same-studio "extras"

"Hyde and Hare" was included on the Jekyll & Hyde double feature (1932 Paramount and 1941 MGM versions) DVD. "Acrobatty Bunny" was included with A Night in Casablanca (originally released through UA) and "The Daffy Doc" was included with Room Service (an MGM film).

BTW, the complete specs and cover art are at www.dvdanswers.com and www.dvdtimes.co.uk

if they have some room left on the fourth disc they should put the Carol Burnett Spoof "Went With the Wind" on there, which I enjoyed more than the movie itself. :D

To celebrate the fact that I got three weeks off from work for rest, I watched today the latest installment in the separate Minions series of movies. What I loved was the unique logo variation of the Universal logo, which was akin to the plot taking place in the late 1800s

Not everything from DC and Marvel comics needs to be more like the adaptations.
