FUNimation Licensing Blitz Coming

there's a reason his hair is like that. it's a big plot spoiler, though. i'll just say:
the lines aren't his hair

also why does everyone think Funimation's gonna get Gintama? i mean as much as i would love for that to happen (Bandai's the WORSE company for this series), there is no way Bandai USA is letting that one slip by.
Why would Bandai be the worse company?

The shock of Eva 1.0 aside, Vandread, Last Exile, Samurai Champloo--three of Geneon's most outstanding series which I feared would fade into obscurity after its collapse--the fact that these three titles have found good new homes makes for a happy Kitschensyngk.

Vandread especially. I've been looking to own this series, but NO WAY do I want to pay $100 for a 26-episode thin box set, especially when Tenchi Universe was HALF the price.

because their translations are TOO perfect. just look at Eureka Seven and Gurren Lagann to see what i'm talking about. if they stick too close to the Japanese version, it's gonna be a mess. they need to do what Funimation did with Shin-Chan. i mean granted most of the humor in this series is universal, but there's a lot of obscure references people won't get.

I do not want a Gintama dub filled with American pop culture references.
Ugh.

Here Here!!

It worked in Lupin III, but honestly I like it when they stick to the Japanese versions, save American pop culture references for abridged series

And I'm one of the few who actually gets the obscure references

that's what subs are for. the average person doesn't get them, just look what happened to Super Milk Chan when Adult Swim stuck to the original material.

Yeah, but ADV made two separate dubs for Super Milk-chan, [adult swim] just decided to air the accurate version, considering fans love accuracy

But in America, catering to fans does not work compared to Japan. It's catering to the ignorant masses that don't know anything about the show.

(depressed) Damn, you're right

(glass shatters)
(goes into a fiery rage and cries a la Nobuyuki Hiyama)
It's a shame no one's (except one of my friends) as passionate about anime as I am!!

(goes into a corner and sulks)

That is great news for EVA :D but I will only buy it if ADV does the dubin with the original cast returning. Changing it would be like changing the cast and director of fullmetal alchemist 2.

If funimation screws up my favorite series of all time with EVA I will never buy another funimation product again.

The second Fullmetal Alchemist series does have a different director from the first.

And honestly I didn't like Mizushima's direction of Hagaren (FULLMETAL Alchemist's Japanese nickname)

Damn, I just realized from that last post, I really do need a girlfriend (but considering my taste in women, it's impossible)!!

I am talking about the english dub director. If they got a different dub director for fullmetal alchemist 2 it would sound different. It is one of the most important jobs for the english dub

Oh, in that case, hopefully they do keep the same ADR directors

FUNimation does Evangelion.

FUNivangelion.

It just now came to me.

And I don't know why I just posted that.

You realize that ADV is FUNimation's slave now, right? They'll do it to the best of their ability. Of course, the Eva dub is rather old, so they're not going to be able to get back ALL of the original voice actors. It'll probably be a similar situation with End of Evangelion, they'll get who they can.

It's not like there's much of the old ADV anyways. Most of the VA are freelancers or already working for Funi, like Vic and Greg.

Even Chris Patton has returned to FUNimation if recent videos prove correct. So yeah, ADV's pretty much roasted chestnut at this point. They have a stake in KIBA and that's it.

Wow. That is absolutely horrible news for ADV. Unless they've got some huge ace in the hole, or they're hoping the new movies drum up a ton of interest in their DVDs of the series, they're toast. ADV's not quite as dumb as Geneon as I don't think they've ever over reached on the whole sale price of ther DVDs, but they gotta get something huge, soon, or they migh as well sell out to Funi and fold.

Wow.

EVA 1.0 has been confirmed as well.

Capping off this 10-day countdown and this year, this is the ultimate announcement. The new material from Neon Genesis Evangelion, my second favorite anime, the best Gainax anime, the best anime ADV had. So, FUNimation, you have proven yourself to be the best American anime company, so thank you, and happy New Year's! I can't wait to get this when it's released, which is hopefully really the date it says. This is almost another year, but if it stays the same, at least that means you keep to your word about the release date. I understand that it takes a while to dub it all, especially considering you'll have to hunt down some of the original cast or, for those you can't find, recast. But at least the main cast have all confirmed they want to reprise their roles, so most of it willl stay the same.

Yeah. ADV has always been changing, going from a small company to one of the biggest to constantly going downhill, but they've always had their biggest title, Neon Genesis Evangelion. They still have the series, but the fact that new material is out and they didn't get it means they will continue to just be a studio to continue to dub titles they lost to FUNimation. Basically, FUNimation rules the world.
