"The company, whose shares jumped 22%, has held discussions with at least one U.S. media company about a potential combination, though no final decisions have been made on a potential sale, one source said. The company has also explored options including a private investment in public equity, or PIPE transaction, another source said."

update: seems like Fox Corporation has announced that it would acquire Roku for approximately $22 billion

I wasn't expecting this to be honest.

I wonder if they'll merge the Roku Channel and Tubi.

So what impact would this have on the industry? I haven't really used Roku like that. So please, someone, give me the outcomes of this merger?

If Sony were to acquire the non-news assets of Fox Corp. as I want them to, this could get real interesting.

I think they are the least bad choice of the anyone the could buy Roku. FOX has been good owners of Tubi. Though I do feel at some point they might merge Tubi and Roku Channel for example. They also will own Frndly. Roku being indie was hard for them because of the competition in their main market being Google and Amazon. It's not Disney, SkyDance which would be terrible. It's an acquisition and not a merger and it's doesn't feel evil because not it's Google or Amazon buying the competition in the market pace to destroy it.

21st Century Fox could’ve bought Roku years ago to survive the streaming era! Pity!

Good thing they waited till AFTER that was over so it wouldn't be a problem.

Not much, really. Fox Corporation would just basically be a revenue stream for them like it currently is with Tubi.

How come?

Not really , no, Roku had just launched Roku Channel in 2017, and they were still mainly focused on the hardware and software end of the business not streaming. FOX have been buying a hardware/software primary business. Roku wasn't for sale then either and probably turned tons off offers for years. 21st Century Fox wouldn't have bought Tubi either. Especially not 2017 Tubi, which I used, and it was way different to now.

Not so sure about this. Fox's got Tubi, so I don't really see the point of them buying another streaming company.

Does Roku have any original content? All I remember was that Weird Al biopic.

I mostly hope they keep them run separately. Roku Channel has free stuff that isn't on Tubi, sometimes they have same stuff and sometimes one has one thing and the other doesn't and they swap. It's good to have a lot of spaces for free. You can buy streaming services on Roku Channel too, can't be done on Tubi. There's Howdy of course too. Roku is also a software business with some hardware that's a little different.

I meant that would Disney not pursue 21st Century Fox if the latter already bought Roku?
Like Linus said, 2017 was very different time when compared to today.

In 2026, you are much more deeper into streaming market and it was rookie in 2017.

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
