Well folks, it's that time again. This is E3 week, which means we're about to get bombarded with press conferences, new trailers, release date news, and hopefully some reveals of enticing brand new games.

In fact, it's started already as of Sunday night with some Nintendo events and a presentation from Bethesda. Today brings us press conferences from Microsoft and Sony in addition to Ubisoft and EA once again. Then tomorrow, the day the E3 event actually begins in earnest, there's Nintendo's online presentation and its "Treehouse Live" livestream where developers show off parts of games all day. Tuesday also brings a Square Enix presentation and an event focused on PC gaming.

Here's a layout of the event schedule & some ways to see things (times are Eastern standard). Going to update this as I go...

E3 2015 Livestreams (know of one not listed? Post it and I'll add it)

Youtube Live at E3 (new link. includes press conferences, schedules, trailers, links to other streams. Crazy good)
Nintendo's E3 Website

Whew, OK, loads of stream & liveblog links added. Microsoft is ongoing right now. Tuesday's stuff can wait for now. Youtube's page looks insanely useful for those craving videos of any sort.

One spicy tidbit I noticed this AM...Siliconera claims a remake of Final Fantasy VII is actually happening. If true this seemingly flies in the face of repeated comments talking down the prospects for it, most recently early last year. We'll know the truth soon enough.

Everything else in the Microsoft press event was a disappointment in the face of Cuphead. Bless its black heart it's coming to the PC so I can skip out on the XBone.

Dear lord, people weren't kidding. That's literally a playable retro cartoon. Loving the novelty of it!

Snaaaaaaaaake.

That ending..

Now this is cool. Platinum Games is doing a Transformers game with cel-shaded style:

Transformers: Devastation Teaser Trailer Live Broadcast From E3 - Transformers News - TFW2005

PlatinumGames has announced that they will be officially revealing their new title (obviously it's Transformers: Devastation) today; Monday 15th June 2015 at 3:30PM Eastern Time (12:30PST) from the E3 Pre-Show.

Today’s the big reveal of our new title! Be sure to watch the @geoffkeighly Pre-E3 show at 12:30 pacific for all the details!

However, the gameplay footage will be revealed tomorrow; Tuesday 16th June, 2015 at 6PM Eastern Time according to IGN.
What was mentioned during the interview following the teaser:
  • Inspiration for the game came primarily from the G1 cartoon but ideas from IDW Comics and other media were taken in as well.
  • Develeopment team from Bayonetta and Legend Of Korra video games were involved in making Transformers: Devastation (which certainly explains the familiar style from both games).
  • Player will only control the Autobots.
  • After the introduction stage of the game, the player can choose whomever they want to play as.
  • The game is Single Player Only. That's right; no Multiplayer capabilities.
  • The game will come to PC as well (along with PS3, PS4, Xbox360 and Xbox One).
  • Gameplay footage will be revealed tomorrow; Tuesday 16th June, 2015 at 6PM Eastern Time (as mentioned above).

So Sony just opened its press conference with gameplay footage for The Last Guardian. Yes, really! Finally after years in development hell. Due in 2016 for Playstation 4.

Editing in more Sony press conference observations:

-Horizon: New Dawn from Guerrilla Games (Killzone) looks really cool. Completely new title. Humans try to survive against mechanical monsters on some alien world. The entire gameplay video is this hunter woman trying to bring down a monstrosity that'd be right at home in Xenoblade. Awesome.

-Hitman. Meh. It and Street Fighter V are going to have betas on offer for people who preorder either one. Street Fighter's beta starts July 23. Cammy and Birdie confirmed.

-Sweet demonstration of the fabulous looking space game No Man's Sky that made a splash at E3 2014. Space travel looks pretty simple, & apparently there's a lot that can be done besides wandering around & taking in the sights. "It's got trading, fighting, exploring, survival".

-Dear lord. Media Molecule has this creation game called Dreams. People can produce stuff that looks like a painting in motion. Just incredible. Nice to see these people feed creativity with a platform besides LittleBigPlanet.

-Poor Firewatch got a token look. Seems cool though. An adventure game where you're a fire lookout investigating some strange goings on, and the watcher's relationship with his supervisor is a factor. Good creative pedigree too.

-There's Destiny and Assassin's Creed. Meeeeh.

-Damn, there it is. Final Fantasy VII is getting remade. I like how they faked out people a bit with the World of Final Fantasy game with cutsey chibi characters. That one might be good too though.

Final Fantasy VII remake got a very brief teaser. Don't think we're seeing it soon. But at least it's in the works.

-And here's a montage of a bunch of games....I'm not even gonna try to keep up with this

-Oh man. Shenmue III. Some people are gonna flip out. There will be a kickstarter campaign. Edit: Ah, there it is.

Shenmue 3 is the true sequel to the classic open world action RPG games, Shenmue and Shenmue 2. Created for modern platforms (PC and PlayStation 4) and built in Unreal 4, Shenmue 3 will continue the legacy of Shenmue.

With your help, we can #SaveShenmue and rejoin Ryo and our favorite characters on this new adventure!

All images on the Kickstarter page are a work in progress.

Shenmue 3 will have familiar elements from its predecessors and new fight mechanics to achieve a new level of interactive storytelling.

If this project reaches its funding goal, Shenmue 3 will be available on the PS4 and PC.

Our ambition is to deliver a Shenmue experience that will draw in newcomers to the series and reward diehard fans with its deep story and rich gameplay.

Where we left off... Ryo Hazuki has made his way to China in search of his father’s killer. There he meets a new travelling companion, Shenhua, and learns of a legend from her village that has foretold their path together.

The story continues as Ryo and Shenhua start off on a new journey that will take them farther into enemy territory, deeper into mystery, and ever closer to their destiny.

Will the mystery of the mirrors be revealed? How is Ryo’s father connected to all of this? Will Ryo track down the Chi You Men cartel and face Lan Di in a final showdown?

-Batman: Arkham Knight does look pretty cool. The Scarecrow missions exclusive to Playstation....uh....yikes. I think I'd pay money not to see these. Too good a job for me.

-Ah, Project Morpheus. This is Sony's virtual reality tech. Interesting they're using a 3v3 multiplayer game (RIGS) to emphasize that it's something that's not just for an immersive single player experience.

-Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Looks like more of the same, but hey. Can't argue with success. Due in August. "Playstation is the new home of Call of Duty".

-Big ol montage recapping stuff. And now Star Wars and Disney Infinity. "Twilight of the Republic" set covers the prequel trilogy. A month later comes "Rise Against the Empire." As you'd expect this introduces "iconic moments" from episodes IV - VI. Playstation gets an exclusive starter pack with both of them a month before they get released anywhere else. Oh, and they have Bobba Fett. Way to market to that fanbase.

Apparently Disney Infinity can support anything from lightsaber duels to spaceship battles. Not bad.....I think I'll be good and go for just Battlefront though.

-Star Wars Battlefront: Lots of battle modes teased. Among them are fights vs iconic characters, matchups against AI. Solo & co-op play is possible. Also survival missions, which they're demoing. Oh hey, Admiral Akbar talking in your ear. Nice.

-And they're ending with the new Uncharted. Looks nice, though it's kinda a shame. The premise for this is basically in the league of Indiana Jones. What do they hype in this video? Shooter gameplay. Makes it look not so special. Tomb Raider comes off better by comparison.

2017 is probably when to expect it, since that will be the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII. Now Square Enix won't have to worry about making a Final Fantasy XVI immediately after XV. Could Final Fantasy VIII be next after VII to get an HD remake?

Sony obviously wins E3 for Final Fantasy VII, but I've also given them the win for years like 2013 for similar Final Fantasy announcements that we'll similarly not be seeing for several years. There's no telling when we'll actually ever get XV or KH3, so I'm sure we'll be waiting quite a bit longer for this, after the decade of hope and anticipation we've already had. Of course we only get time frames for stuff like World of Final Fantasy. Thanks, Square Enix.

Shenmue 3 is also a pretty huge deal for a lot of people, so that was quite the incredible announcement as well. When Kickstarters like that are announced it's not as if there's any doubt that it will be made. It's already raised over half of its goal.

So yeah, not bad Sony. We'll see if Nintendo has anything interesting for the rest of the week.

Yeah, Sony won for me too. FFVII alone seals the deal, but Star Wars Battlefront looks like a day one buy.

Given enough time, hey, anything is possible. You raise a good point on the 20th anniversary for VII. If 2016 brings in XV the timing of it all will be just about perfect.

Speaking of which, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III were conspicuously absent. Though, it was pointed out to me that after all Square Enix has its own press conference tomorrow. Some news for them then isn't an unreasonable expectation.

Dumbest thing I've seen out of E3 so far: Microsoft's $150 dollar "elite" controller for XBox One. Might not be unprecedented, but no accessory is worth that. The Xbox 360 sells for $200 these days. Man.

So the crowdfund goal for Shenmue 3 was $2 million. It has shot past $1.2 million and 14,400 supporters. Looks like the fanbase is going to deliver on that one!

Personally, I doubt we'll be getting news on those titles. From what I read online, Square-Enix didn't really have anything new in terms of the Final Fantasy XV trailer they had planned to show at E3, so they decided to scrap that. Meanwhile, Kingdom Hearts III appears to be saved up for later events (more specifically, the Japanese version of D23), although a teaser is still possible.

You may be right. D23 has been great for Kingdom Hearts in the past. We shall see....

Nintendo's stream is imminent in 3 minutes, & Square Enix follows. Stream links are in the first post. Alternatively, here's liveblogs at Forbes and Gamespot.

I think I'll mimic my Sony post and probably edit in thoughts right here...

-NINTENDO X MUPPETS!

CHokVxlVAAEmSyg.jpg

-Whew. Star Fox Zero confirmed for "holiday 2015". Miyamoto's narrated presentation seems impressive. Transformations, giant enemies, spaceships, the works. This might be the first Wii U game that truly integrates the gamepad with the attempt at immersion and recreating the feeling that you're piloting an airplane.

-Some Mario Maker hype. This game was put on amazing display at the Nintendo World Championships.

-Reggie says nothing has transformed Nintendo's franchises as much as Amiibo. Uh, really? I wouldn't say that's the case based on Smash Bros.

-And we're cutting to figures for Skylanders. I guess they meant it when it was said they didn't intend for Amiibo to compete with other toys-to-life stuff.

-The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes. Looks like another game in the vein of Four Swords Adventures. Fall 2015 on the 3DS.
  • More commentary after the trailer. Big focus on puzzle solving and getting through dungeons. Multiplayer is possible. Uses a "totem" mechanic to a great extent. Links can stand on one another to reach higher spots. You have 3 characters to manage.
  • The Links can be outfitted with different costumes. Not just a cosmetic feature, they grant unique abilities.
  • By the way...there's a Zelda costume. Yep.
-Hyrule Warriors 3DS includes all DLC characters from Wii U version. Tetra and the King from Wind Waker are in, which we knew from a premature trailer upload earlier. 1st quarter 2016.

-Oh ho, here we go. New multiplayer 3DS shooter. Metroid Prime: Federation Force. Shooter action in the Prime universe.

-Wow, didn't expect this: epic new English language trailer for Fire Emblem If. Wisely localized as Fire Emblem Fates outside Japan. Affirmed for 2016. Looks like there's some serious stuff going on with the heroine Aqua...

-Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei. This is still so weird to look at. What is this even supposed to be? Slated for 2016.

-Epic Xenoblade X trailer with lots of giant robots. Dated for...December 4, 2015. Yikes. There goes one prospective Wii U title for the summer or fall.

-Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer...well, it's exactly what the title says. Due September 24, 2015. Nintendo 3DS.

-And here's something else for Wii U that's using Amiibo. Animal Crossing x Mario Party? It's called Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival. Another thing for "this holiday".

-Emi Watanabe of Nintendo talking Yoshi's Wooly World. She was involved in Kirby's Epic Yarn too. Some fun backstory. The idea for Yarn Yoshi Amiibo came because of a mockup she made.
  • "The difficulty level is all up to the player," she says. You can just be casual and have fun, but if you're trying to be a completionist there's supposed to be a lot of challenge. This is the same successful attitude applied to Super Mario these days.
  • Think I just caught that Amiibo can be used to give Yoshi yarn costumes. Yarn Yoshi with a Mario or Samus motif, for example. Too cute.
  • There's a release date: October 16, 2015.

-Yokai Watch from Level 5. Anime style, cel-shaded game. "Holiday 2015" again. This strikes me as "if Pokemon were an adventure RPG game with a goal".

-Mario Tennis Ultra Smash: "Holiday 2015". Noticing a pattern yet?

-New Mario & Luigi RPG game that seems to blend with Paper Mario. Due out early 2016.

-Mario Maker. Ah, here we go.Due September 11, 2015.

  • Apparently there's a booklet that'll show you some of what can be done and / or used with the level creator.
  • Lots of talk about the background of level design. This part of the video is worth watching.

And....that's about it.

This was a middling presentation. Very fixated on 2015, and not great news for the Wii U. Nintendo is releasing not a thing for the console this summer. Mario Maker is the next big thing after Splatoon. At least after that, there's possibly at least a game a month for awhile. Yoshi in October, Xenoblade early December. Possibly Star Fox Zero in November?

What led the presentation for the Wii U were things previously announced. For new Wii U stuff there is.....Mario Tennis. Okay, fine, but it's Mario Tennis. Not a super inspiring reveal. The Animal Crossing stuff seems pleasant enough but I don't feel like I really have to have it. 2016 is a giant question mark outside of knowing Zelda Wii U is theoretically coming out at some point, and the wacko SMT / Fire Emblem thing (seriously, what is this about?!). To not even hint at more at this point is something. And go figure: a game with the Metroid name in the 3DS and Wii U era and it's a spinoff and Samus isn't involved.

Fire Emblem Fates makes me happy though. An English trailer already gives me some hope this one is early 2016.

That was a more lackluster presentation for me. There wasn't really much from Nintendo that really captured my interests. Even though I knew it was kind of a long shot, I was hoping that there would be some Pokemon related announcement. I know that they haven't revealed a main series game at E3 before, but I thought that there might be a possibility that they would this time considering that there hasn't been any news about one for this year. Although, it does make it more likely that the only Pokemon game coming out this year is the new Mystery Dungeon game, which is fine with me, While I love Pokemon and I have enjoyed the recent games, I think that releasing a new game or two every year has been overwhelming for both the fans and the developers. Taking a year off would give the fans a bit of a breather and allow for the developers to spend more time working on the games so that they would be potentially better than if they had to continue rushing them out every year

The Nintendo puppets were pretty hilarious though.

Warning, incredibly negative post forthcoming.

Well.... that sucked, to be frank. I think it's quite obvious that Nintendo has given up on the Wii U being a profitable console at this point, which is why we had not one new surprise. I did find the new Mario and Luigi/Paper Mario crossover to be somewhat promising, but I kind of wish they would just develop a new Paper Mario game altogether. I also can't really say that I find the concept of Mario Maker to be all that interesting. Then there's Star Fox, which looks incredibly gimmicked and seems to exemplify the issues that I've had with Nintendo's more "innovative" titles since 2008.

And look! New Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime, and Zelda titles announced that virtually have nothing to offer related to their original appeal, hooray! I may sound overly pessimistic on this end, but they're seriously passing off these games as major titles? The new Metroid Prime game looks like a Halo multiplayer shooter with the name Metroid slapped on it, the new Animal Crossing projects were nothing but a tease and seem to be meant for the 5 people who were dying for a new Mario Party game, and the new Zelda game seems to offer nothing remotely groundbreaking or interesting. Oh and MORE cash-in on Hyrule Warriors, one of the most unoriginal games to come out on the Wii U. Just what we need.

I get it, I really do. Nintendo X is the focus now, and Zelda U will more than likely be the final major title for the Wii U... and I'm sure it will be awesome! Hell, Xenoblade Chronicles X looks awesome as well, and I'm sure I'll purchase that too! I have no idea why it's being delayed all the way to December in the west when it's been out for 2 months now in Japan, but sure why not! But how on earth can Nintendo expect people to invest in their consoles when we look at the downright terrible job that they've done with the Wii U the past couple of years? It's as if they've all but made sure that people have gotten barely anything from investing in this system. As for the whole Amiibo worship.... yeah, I'm not even gonna comment. This is a PG forum, and sadly there is no way that I can express my discontent for this ridiculous gimmick in a rational, mature manner as of this moment.

Safe to say, I think I'm fed up with nintendo at the moment. I can't really see myself investing in this new Nintendo X system, due to the fact that this company simply cannot be trusted with how they manage software outside of the portable market. I've been heavily disappointed with development on both the Wii and the Wii U, and it's gonna take quite a bit of further persuasion for me to even consider buying the next main console.

Also, I hate to admit that I was gullible enough to think that they would announce a new Mario game during the final video. Instead, we got a bunch of rehashed Mario clips with a bunch of random fans worshiping him... they couldn't even find a showcase title for the finale? That's probably what ticked me off the most during the entire presentation. Instead of introducing something new and innovative at the end to surprise the audience, they choose to worship themselves over a series that they are doing absolutely nothing to modify over the next year.

And no, Scrappy-Fan92. I don't think any major retailer would consider December 4th as part of their "Fall" season. There's a difference between what is literally Fall and what is considered Fall in sales. Sorry, just had to add that.

Rats. I was hoping the smaller-sized New Nintendo 3DS would be announced, but it didn't. And you know what that means: It means that Nintendo of America has just struck out.

Kingdom Hearts III was all I really cared about today. So glad we got a new trailer, even if there's still no date.

Star Fox looks fun, but I wanted more than a remake.

Yokai Watch should be interesting. In Japan, it's become a behemoth; will it do as well in the States?

The Paper Mario/Mario & Luigi crossover should be fun.

While I'm also disappointed that the regular New Nintendo 3DS didn't get announced, I'm not going to be playing the same tired "Ninten-doomed" card (which I never bought into in the first place) that some people (who shall remain nameless) have been...

Is the non-XL NEW 3DS really that good? I mean, changeable face plates, but that seems rather small compared to other things.
