I bought the Matrix when it first came out on DVD, and i bought the Matrix Revisited (the behind-the-scenes one, i think thats the name). now, they are releasing "The Matrix: Special Edition", which is basically the movie and the behind-the-scenes edition combined and with some new stuff. im sorry, but does anyone else not like how they do this? i realize it's capitalism and all, but...BAH!

Special Editions don't bother me that much, as long as they release that version first. When they double dip and release diffrent versions, its very annoying when you have the orignal DVD.

I hate to double dip, and I won't do it unless I absolutely have to, and then after I'll feel stupid for buying the same disc twice.

The only DVD I'll ever double dip for again is Batman when and if a special edition is released.

I agree completely. If they put out another Batman one, I'll buy it in a heart beat, especially if it actually has.... shock... FEATURES! :D

I don't like them personally, because sometimes I buy the first one and then miss out. But I usually will just keep what I have and not bother getting the new one. Unless it's a huge improvement.

I really don't have too much of a problem with double dipping. When you buy any disc you have to accept the possibility of a better version somewhere down the road.

Depends. If the special edition is going to come out within a year or two of the original release, I appreciate it if the DVD company announces that fact so that I can make an informed decision as to whether I want to wait to buy it. The Matrix I think is an acceptable double-dip, since I've gotten years of good use out of my first Matrix disc and I don't consider the money I spent on it wasted, even though I plan on buying the special edition when it comes out.
What irks me is when DVD companies flat-out lie about their double-dipping plans, a la Fox's long denials that they were planning a special edition X-Men disc.

Uhh yeah what jdoggg said. I've said it before and I'll say it again: DVD is not the end all media format and we'll all double-dip for a HD version at some point on a movie that we love...

If the SE is enough of an upgrade (like the Warner SEs and the Criterion SEs), it's worth it.

However, it's silly to do 14 editions of a movie.

What I hate most are special editions that have a better transfer or a cleaner print compared to the original edition. It's understandable for older movies, but I find it unacceptable that people who bought the original somehow are buying crap.

Yes, I loathe production companies when they release new updated/special/super duper/deluxe/extra extra special editions. I've only updated one and that was my Monty Python and the Holy Grail DVD. I do love the movie and I did want the extras. As far as other DVDs I own what they've first released; I won't give them the satisfaction/money of buying the movie twice. I'll rent it to see the extras if I really need to see them.

As far as this "new" matrix one....I think it's a big ploy to get people to get reacquaited with the story and make some bucks before Reloaded comes out. I think that's why New Line released the extended edition of LotR. Rake in some more cash from the previous one before the new one is released.

Yes, I hate it when they double dip a DVD. I hate it when I alread buy a version and they release a new one, like with the new T2 DVD. What really bugs me though is when they double dip box sets. While I love the idea of the new Alien box set, I don't want to pay that much money to have two versions of it since I don't really want to get rid of my old version either.

New version of T2? When was this announced?

This is a BIG reason why people rip DVDs. It's not right, but people refuse to be cheated into buying a second edition. If a DVD is going to be released, it should be the final version, with as many extras as can be slapped on. If that means waiting a year after the theatrical release (instead of the current 4-6 month period), then so be it.

Later.

thats what im saying exactly.

dvd.ign.com has the cover to T2... for those who care. This I have a problem with, doesn't "ultimate" mean final? What are they going to do, throw the GnR video in there?

i think anyone who is a big enough fan of a particular movie/genre probably keeps their collection in pristine condition......that being the case, if a later edition has more, why dont you just trade it in at one of these used dvd places and put the money towards the purchase? thats what i would do, except in cases where the old one has stuff that the new one doesnt
