'''Casper the Friendly Ghost''' is a cartoon character created by [[Famous Studios]]; originally appearing in their [[Noveltoons]] cartoon series, he was later spun off into a series of his own. He was also the star of several Harvey Comics. The character was also made the star of two television series in the 60s and 70s, and was then virtually forgotten until a live-action/CGI film based on the character was released in 1995.
Casper was originally created as a character for children's picture books, but the books failed to take off, and one of the authors sold the character rights to Famous Studios. The character is always portrayed as a friendly ghost who wants to make friends with humans but is unable too because most of them are scared of him on sight.
