C&C - Wolf's Rain - "Scars in the Wasteland" [5/15]

"Scars in the Wasteland" was another good episode. The plot continues to unfold as the wolves travel through a wasteland looking for paradise. The scene where Toboe is licking Tsume's leg was just too funny. He cares for Tsume because I think he knows that Tsume acts tough, but really doesn't know where he's going in life, so Toboe tries to help him. We also find out that not only Quent hates wolves as they're attacked by futuristic robots like in episode 9 of Trigun. Cher and Hubb also seem to be getting close again as they have a drink together. Hubb also finds what appears to be the book of the moon.

Why is...Toboe so freakin'....gentle and kind?
I think because he was treated like a pet most of his life and wasn't a lone wolf that had to survive on his own.

admittedly you had to know the teamwork thing was coming just from a logical perspective alone, I mean they're WOLVES! and anyone who's seen anything about wolves in their life knows that wolves are pack animals, they hunt, they travel, they mark territory.... they do dang near everything in packs

Ya know what, why is it in the future they always seem to have really ****ed up weapons that tactical-wise are poorly designed? I mean that robot broke out of the ice there and just died...

Well, you have to consider that it broke down after:

1) Being involved in what seems to have been a major battle
2) Being trapped underground in a 'sleep mode' for an unknown period of time (apparently at least a century or more)
3) Getting the crap kicked out of it by a supernatural wolf-being. :D
4) Being trapped under a flood of water and ice until it was finally able to claw its way free

I'd say it was pretty damn tough. :)

That aside, I thought the episode was slow, but that suited its purpose. It was about Tsube's reluctance to let anyone get close to him... I have a feeling his last pack got killed horribly, and he blames himself for it. So, he puts on this tough-guy ******* personality, so no one else will want to get close and, thus, get hurt because of him.

And yet, these three younger ones can tell he's not really a bad person. I loved the scene of the runt licking his leg... it was both sweet, slightly erotic, and disturbing all at once. Perfect scene. :)

Well it did fall from a great height after Kiba stabbed it with an icicle. Then it got hit by a huge avalanche. After enduring all of that, it might have broke something or burn up its power source after digging itself out.

As for what I thought about all the above. The assault robot design looked great! But the way it was taken down was silly. Doggie stabbing it with a sharp piece of ice then an avalanche... gah.

Favorite bit I liked the most from this episode:

Tsume "Well... Worst comes to worst we can always eat each other.
We can start with the runt, since he's gotten so weak. And of course there is always little porky over there."
Toboe "Hey, wait a sec, how come Kiba is not on the menu?"
Tsume "Cuz that guy is TOTALLY FULL OF CRAP! That's why."
Laters.

D'OH. Ah I'll leave my reply up anyway. :)

Heh, yeah I thought that line was funny too, I actually chuckled when he said it. As for the episode, it was okay, we see the pack out of the city and roaming around, mostly about Tsume and his stubbornness and Toboe acting all friendly towards him. Once I saw that robot come out and started chasing them, I pretty much knew what the rest of the episode would be like. The fight towards the end was pretty good and the music throughout the whole episode was great as usual, I thought.

I give Scars in the Wasteland a B+.

Well, this was my first episode of Wolf's Rain. How many did I miss? 3? Anyway, that being said, I don't get it. Are all four of them wolves or just some of them? What was with the couple at the restaurant?

You've missed the first three episodes. Don't expect to get it. Even if you find what seems to be a decent explanation, that won't cover everything, because not everyone is going to know for sure which details were significant.

Personally, I'd wait to see if it gets a second run, and watch it from the beginning then. Otherwise, I'd say you don't have much right to complain.

There was some homoerotic kinky licking stuff going on...reminds me of Jupiter Jazz on Bebop. I think the show is worth watching just for the Yoko Kanno music...good shit.

Deep Thoughts: 5/15 Sat

1. Heh, so what's the morsel count now: live sewer rats, now a rotting deer carcass. Yum! :p

2. So there are female wolves. I asked about that last week.

3. Heh, Tsume is always the one that gets shot. I guess he could use a few more scars. :D

4. Hey! A Shrike! ;)

5. Bloody licky yaoi! :anime:
OK, that may look fine for canines, but between men... yeeesh.... :o

6. Heh, I guess Ms. Busy Scientist doesn't receive much house visitors.
That must be a huge relief for the guy. :D

Cool episode. The action was pretty awesome. I wish they could have made it to paradise or more would have happened but it didn't. The episode was good though.

NOTE: be on the look out for a familiar transvestite in later episodes.

Wait...there was a transvestite in Bebop? How do I not notice this....

The saxophone guy from Jupiter Jazz. He explains his situation in part 2. If you've seen it it's not hard to miss.

I really felt like I was watching Fellowship of the Ring last night. Four guys walking to god knows where with really nothing happening.

Must be ADD. Here, take two of these and call me in the morning.

Anyways, a fairly interesting episode of WR. I can't get the dead deer feast out of my head though. Some bonding moments within the pack and a fight with the machine-gun........machine are the obvious highlights.

This gets a C. Good, not great.

Oh snap...I mixed up my vocab for a second.Yeah I, of coarse, noticed...him?

I don't think Gren was the only one in the Jupiter Jazz episodes. Spike spoke with a group of transvestites early on during JJ part 1. One of them was apparently named "Julius" or something similar.

Yeah. The whole planet was filed with them. One of them was like "...oooh a customer!..." or something like that.

I believe this is what people are looking for...

[xspoilerx="It's Ju-li-US"]Cowboy Bebop
Wolf's Rain[/xspoilerx]

EDIT: Huh, I guess spoiler boxes and links don't work like they used to. Ah well. =x

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
