C&C - Sailor Moon (UNCUT) Talkback Thread [5/31-11/29]

Ep. 22:
So about the story in this episode (spoilers for the manga and Crystal)...
Along with the episodes where Usagi, Ami, and Rei's are respectively recruited, it's the only canon story (boy, that's a lot of filler!). Also, Jadeite's still alive at this point in the story and all the Four Kings of Heaven appear together before the three Scouts. Their story is very different as well.

Princess Diamond is also known as Dia or D. Could that have been a reference to Princess Diana back then?

For a moment, before that was revealed to be an evil spirit, Nephrite reminded me of certain One-Winged Angel.

It's not often we see a princess in spirally coke-bottle glasses.

Maybe it's the Uzumaki anticipation, but now she's giving off some evil-looking spirals.

Ep. 23:
Well, Nephrite did show a good side today. But still, if you only knew, Naru.

Next week:
Spoilery title. But also...
Sailor Moon brings the thunder!

It is funny how much all the voices sound like Naruto characters. Even though Sheh’s Usagi is a little different from shy characters like Hinata she usually plays, her voice is still very obviously hers.

Well one thing Hinata and Usagi have in common.
They both have a bratty kid and that is very divided among the fandom with how they fell of said kid.

Anyway I thought episode 22 was pretty good, yeah Tuxedo Mask kind of a creep kissing a knocked out girl.

I have to give him credit for playing honest, he could be an enemy if we are after the same thing?

The DiC dub handled the Naru episode today well. Bizarrely they cut of the scene of the beach ball hitting the funny expression usagi in the pool, but sadly that dub cut so many funny expressions cause im assuming they thought it would be odd to the audience?

I remember seeing the Greek dub of the second episode during my trip to Greece in 02 (is it the o e that debuts the fourth DK Knight?) It was my first experience with the original music, and Zoisite’s true voice (not Japanese but not female either).

I cant believe the next Sailor episode is coming up soon?

Its so poignant that Sailor Jupiters' first episode airs on this week.

I was wondering if it might happen (haven't been keeping close track of the episodes), but yeah, pretty remarkable coincidence that Sailor Jupiter's debut airs the same week her Japanese VA dies.

DiC surprising adapted the chocolate parfait episode well. I loved the emotional voice acting from Molly. I feel Viz restrained the narus actor in this episode.

Oh yes, that episode was "What if DiC was an actual, proper dub" if you watch that episode its not really diferent at all from the Japanese version except some details. To this day I still watch the DiC version of that one episode, it aged very well.

Oh yeah... "Jupiter comes thundering in..." DiC called that rice ball a muffin...

So Usagi meets Makoto her future son, wait sorry wrong show there I go again.

But yeah I hope you enjoy those monsters we saw in episode 24, because from now on the rest of this arc, all the monsters are humans turned into monsters. The Dark Kingdom has run out of minions. Well actually we me see real monsters in the finale, but no promises.

Im surprised Naruto didnt get more complaints airing on US TV.

I guess since it was censored a bit and properly rated it literally got away with murder.

These episode were amongst the most edited though.

Ep. 24:
Rag Time? Are they gonna torture Naru with old-timey music?

Evil never takes a day off, Naru.

Sayonara, Nephrite. May you enjoy your chocolate parfaits in the afterlife.:crying:

Ep. 25:
Metalia is awakening. (Past lives include a space bounty hunter, another bounty hunter's former girlfriend and a crime-fighting cyborg.)

Tall one, meet smart one and mean one. What does that make you, Usagi, the airheaded one?

Jupiter's the fourth to appear, and her symbol looks like a 4. Coincidence?

The tallest one attracts the lightning.

I write this for the episode’s 30th anniversary in September 2022:

PRETTY SOLDIER SAILOR MOON (1992) “Jupiter, the Powerful Girl in Love” Now comes the midway point of the season- beginning with my favorite arc: the Rainbow Crystals. The episode begins with the introduction of Metallia, the true Dark Kingdom Big Bad. Queen Beryl revives the entity with the spirit energy gathered by Jadiete and Nephrite. However, Metallia needs the Silver Crystal for true awakening. Getting the Crystal involves finding seven color gems- each encasing a Dark Kingdom warrior. These denons have been reincarnated as humans, bearing the gems inside them. Zoisite is given the task to recover them. Thus sets the plot for the arc. A human is attacked by Zoisite: he removes the Crystal from the victim, who transforms into a demon. Since she is fighting a human, Sailor Moon can’t kill it with her moon tiara. So Luna gives her a Crescant Wand, which will exorcise the darkness of the victim, restoring it to normal. The episode also sees the debut of Makoto Anko, a tall strong girl whom Usagi befriends, and who becomes the third warrior Sailir Jupiter. Japanese with English Subtitles. ADV DVD.[br][br]I also viewed the edited DiC dub from 1995, retitled “Jupiter comes Thundering In” I first saw this in the Summer of 1997 on USA Network. As usual, as early Dubs go, changes are made: Usagi, Makoto, and Umino are changed to Serena, Lita, and Melvin. Metallia is portrayed as Beryl’s Sage-advisor instead of her superior, the first Rainbow Crystal person (a jerk in the original), is given nice guy traits, and of course, Zoisite is portrayed as a woman. And like other DiC cartoons, this edit adds an education disclaimer: Here Sailor Moon lectures on peaceful solution to resolving conflict. Buena Vista VHS.

It's quite rare for me to cry during sad moments in media. It takes an author with a heavy amount of pull to get me emotionally invested enough for the waterworks to start flowing.

Nephrite's death in Sailor Moon was one of those moments.

Crushing on Ami: The Boy Who Can See the Future
Friday 9/20 at 5.5 PM

Synopsis: Ami meets Ryo Urawa, a clairvoyant boy who has a crush on her. However, Urawa's power makes him aware that he will soon be transformed into a Youma by Zoisite.

DiC actually made the locket have a similar tune in their dub. I wonder why they kept the moonlight legend tune while most hackdubs removed any tine similar to the original versions.

Ep. 26:
"That's just what I was gonna say!" Jupiter just stole Mars' thunder.

A boxing priest? Who does he think he is, Father Mulcahy?

Didn't Naru and Usagi sing to that song in the talent show episode?

Ep. 27:
Sounds like a certain alchemist.

Scissors beats cloth!

Three down, four to go.

Cartoon Network has really helped me cope with some dark times this year.
Starting to be active on the forums again since this is one of the few places I can have informed, good-faith discussion about cartoons.
The Voyo-exclusive Romanian dub of Garfield and Friends goes on with the second season now being relased. I was afraid they will forget about the show after only one season.

As someone who's Portuguese, it just bugs me again that we lost. I wanted Portugal to win this time because this is Ronaldo's last, but no, we think Ronaldo has devolved significantly, and we lost against Spain.
Fowler's Sonic the Hedgehog > Bay's  Transformers. There, I said it.
