Why was EEnE believed to go downhill by Season 5?

I’d just settle for the specials and particularly the movie getting released on DVD. It’s such a bummer that they got omitted from the DVD release.

"Peacock (NBCUniversal Streaming Service)" News and Discussion (Spoilers)

But Isn’t this app OWNED by NBCUniversal?

    "Prey" Talkback (Spoilers)

THAT’S more like it! After Shane Black’s abysmal reboot, this a back-to-basics take on the franchise. Some of the effects work looks like it would’ve benefited from a bigger budget, but it had a spunky heroine, gorgeous cinematography, some meat-and-potatoes action, and slick direction.

    "The Mummy" (1999) Talkback (Spoilers)

We didn’t have a talkback thread for this? That’s surprising. Anyway, I have to confess that while I know many people who love this movie, I’ve always found it sub-Indy. It has the right spirit, but I don’t think it has the sense of wit that Raiders does, and the action scenes don’t have that...

"Power Rangers Cosmic Fury" Talkback (Spoilers)

Is it true that they’re rebooting after this? That would be heartbreaking, it would be like rebooting Doctor Who! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the show should cater to the needs of older fans by any stretch or have a complicated and difficult-to-follow continuity, but man, 30 years of...

"Peacock (NBCUniversal Streaming Service)" News and Discussion (Spoilers)

They took down Battlestar Galactica and the other Sci-Fi Channel shows! Except for Farscape oddly. Drat!

"Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny" Talkback (Spoilers)

This kind of felt like Mangold’s first Wolverine movie to me: he wants to do something different that actually takes the mythology in a different direction, but he’s kind of straight jacketed by the needs of the franchise.

Kevin Conroy has passed away at age 66

Damn. Celebrity deaths don’t usually hit me this hard, but this one is deeply personal for me. He’s the reason I ever even got into comics. I spent countless hours as a kid imitating his raspy bass. Other actors played Batman, but he WAS Batman. I’m going to have to process this.

Upcoming Star Trek Films News and Speculation Thread (Spoilers)

WarnerMedia sold to Discovery Networks, renamed Warner Bros. Discovery

This is a damned massacre. I can’t believe how much stuff is just being thrown aside and will only be available via bootlegs.

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" Talkback (Spoilers)

Temple, apart from being staggeringly racist, is a mean-spirited film with a slow second act and annoying female character, but once you get to that final third, it MOVES. The rope bridge is the tensest moment in the whole franchise, the cinematography is rich and dazzling, and the stunt work is...

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" Talkback (Spoilers)

Revisited this for the first time in almost 15 years. I was harsh on it when I first saw it. Was I too harsh…eh, yes, but that still doesn’t make it very good either. It just feels like a rehash, like Spielberg’s heart wasn’t in it. The main problem comes down to a lot of digital effects. The...

"Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness" Feature Talkback (Spoilers)

This was a bit of a mess. The gigantic sprawl of the whole multiverse concept is cool, but I fear it’s a bit unwieldily. That said, there are lots of cool things in it. It was a blast seeing Stewart again, a treat to see Campbell (Motor City represent!), and while I wish there’d been more...

    "Chasing Amy" Talkback (Spoilers)

It hasn’t aged well, however heartfelt it is, but I do find its depiction for the self-destructive fragility of ego is still more relevant than I’d like.

WarnerMedia sold to Discovery Networks, renamed Warner Bros. Discovery

I’m still seeing ads for Discovery +, I thought that stuff was moving to HBO Max?
  24. Hanshotfirst1138

How come when a TV show dips in quality, the networks and studios usually don't do anything about it?

As long as people keep watching it, they really don’t care. And if people don’t keep watching it, they usually cancel it. It’s just commerce. Art comes last. It’s one of the reasons I have undying respect for HBO for keeping The Wire on for all five years when they could’ve cancelled it anytime...

"So What Have You Read Lately?" Take Two

Dark Horse’s version of the unproduced William Gibson script for Alien 3. The artist does a good job with some of the body horror elements, but there’s almost none of Gibson’s trademark cyberpunk style, the story ends rather abruptly, and ultimately, it kind of feels like a disappointment.

"Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Disney+ Series)" Series News & Discussion (Spoilers)

Obviously, season two was by no means a conclusive ending, but overall, I found it a fairly satisfactory one. I might hang around for season three, but I don’t know how interested I’ll be if they’re tying in all of the spin-offs. I liked this show because of its simplicity: Donald Westlake’s...

    "The Batman" Feature Talkback (Spoilers)

Bluntly, the three-hour runtime on this was frankly psychotic. It feels like a David Lean complex. It was just numbingly ridiculous. That’s not to say there’s not a lot to admire, if little that’s new. There are some solid performances, some great effects work, some good action scenes. But it...
