Cartoon Network International News Thread 27.0

The UK also had the Magazines for a short time in 2017. I'm amazed it has lasted for long in Spain.

Oh, CN Africa, I pine for you!

(accidentally activates his 2014 self for a second but regrets rhat)
honestly not just you but most people in Europe would pine to get a feed like CN Africa

Probably because the current team things words like "dumb" and "stupid" aren't allowed. I miss when CN in EMEA was hardcore.
It's actually super inconsistent though. They edit it out sometimes every once in a while (which is usually context-dependent), but much more often they actually let it slip by. You probably would've known that even better if you actually had an HBO Max subscription like I do (which you unfortunately don't, even though a standalone monthly subscription in Portugal can be €5.99 with ads, or €9.99 without them).

The content edits are usually done by the Warner Bros. Discovery Kids & Family EMEA team (which you should know is primarily based in the United Kingdom), and are done to specifically comply with Ofcom's rules (specifically these sets of rules):

The cartoons need to be made appropriate for broadcast on Cartoon Network pre-watershed in the UK. Also, because the Kids & Family EMEA team that oversees the entire EMEA region is UK-based (despite Czech broadcast licenses being used for most Cartoon Network feeds in the EMEA region, and despite HBO Max in most European markets save for Turkey being registered and licensed in the Netherlands), these edits are also generally applied to the cartoons in question for their release on Cartoon Network and HBO Max throughout much of Europe (and not just the UK/ROI linear feed alone).

That said, the UK-based Kids & Family EMEA team does apply a more rigorous content editing regimen for the Central and Eastern Europe market (despite, again, Czech broadcast licenses for linear channels and a Dutch license for HBO Max). They're playing it safer there even when they have no legal obligation to do so.

Oh, and the Kids & Family EMEA team applies yet another even more rigorous content editing regimen for the Middle East and North Africa market (which while understandable for the Cartoon Network Arabic feed and the Cartoon Network Turkey feed, inexplicably even applies to the pay-TV Cartoon Network MENA feed, as well as to several but not all of the animated titles available on HBO Max in Turkey, Greece and Cyprus, though thankfully not The Amazing World of Gumball or Adventure Time on HBO Max in Greece and Cyprus). They're somehow playing it even safer there, even though there's still not much of a legal obligation to do so, and even though Disney Channel and Nickelodeon are much more lenient content-wise over there.

Not everyone wants to pay for streaming on top of cable TV. It is what it is.

So a lot of countries did have it. I was only aware of the UK and Spain having it.

But there are a lot of people who do pay for streaming without cable, you know. And I am one of them. There are more people like me than you think! For instance, you can actually watch stuff with English subtitles on streaming services, which isn't really the case if you only have cable!

And there are also a lot of people whose cable TV subscription comes with automatic built-in streaming service access! More than you think!

I didn't say that most people watch cable. Streaming is watched more but not everyone is ready to watch streaming just because it has taken over. Especially old people are used to watch cable since it is simple and traditional for their generation. Everyone aren't the same so accept that some people do still want cable TV.

Yeah, but you're younger than me and people your age usually pay for streaming services whenever they can.

It's not like I only watch cable. When I watch Netflix, I bingewatch everything and take a break some months and repeat. The reason I have cable is sports and I'm not paying for multiple streaming service as it would be more expensive. So let people enjoy what they want whether on cable or streaming. To this day there are no right and wrong answers. Streaming is just more comfortable as you get to choose the shows you want to watch.

Viaplay, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video (I think) and to some extent even Disney+ all have sports offerings in Finland, just like they already do in Denmark, so you don't even need cable television for sports. Also, are you personally paying for cable yourself, or is someone else you live with doing it for you?

Anyway, let's go back to the topic of Cartoon Network.

Are those cheaper compared to cable? I pay 18 euros a month for cable. I doubt 4 streaming services are cheaper so yes, when it comes to price, I need cable. It's about saving money which cord cutting was all about but if cable stays cheap, I'll stick with that.

Also I'm from the Baltic state so culturally the streaming isn't as advanced for people as it is in Western Europe. Not everyone can catch up at the same time. Let us respect each other's culture and traditions. Just because I now live in a more wealthy country doesn't mean I'm automatically just going to streaming only.

So any predictions on what classics might get added to HBO MAX CEE besides the 3 already confirmed ones (Flapjack, Cow and Chicken, Billy and Mandy)? I'm definitely expecting Dexter's Lab and Courage, as both are still currently rerunning on Warner TV in Romania, and Dexter is still on TV2 in Hungary. Johnny Bravo and I Am Weasel might also get added, since both of them aired on Warner TV a few years ago. Anything else would be pleasant surprise but I'm definitely not expecting them to put up something like Squirrel Boy or anything of that kind.

Basically anything that airs on CN WE. I somehow doubt JB will be added even though I would love to see that. It's more controversial nowadays, or at least CN thinks it is for not rerunning it for so many years.

im placing my bets that CN Africa will return the classics block during The autumn or winter season the schedule is so good but the removal of that block sort of leaves a hole in my heart

and I hope once it returns they will add some more shows like Johnny Bravo, boing Africa airs it so it's not impossible

(also I'm still butthurt about them not airing Steven Universe thanks to Kenya)

Glad I got you to watch Stranger Things.

If I may recommend more media for you to check out, here's a starter:

You've mentioned that haven't read the original TMNT comics from Mirage Studios. Well, this video by YouTuber "Soundout12" gives a decent roadmap for where to start:

dmxx116 really likes to wish for people not to return back to so and so because their films didn't do so well. I don't agree with everything he says, though I agree on that Jared Leto shouldn't play Skeletor.
I'm sorry but I disagree with what GRPHX said about the past five films with Daniel Craig as James Bond as well as the choice of Denis Villeneuve as director and Steven Knight as writer in the next film because I really doubt Villeneuve's take will be like the Craig films at all and besides, all of the stuff he mentioned happened before the Craig films such as Licence to Kill.
