International Disney Networks Thread Part 17

you got to wonder about that disney channel rest of africa feed though they have refused to switch it to HD for some reason (the only Spanish feed to not be in HD i think) even though CN and Nick are in HD on dstv

even if you get the dstv HD Decoder or DStv Explora it still isnt in HD, here in Nigeria disney channel is on a higher package than CN and nick so it's just ridiculous

at least the schedule kind of makes up for it with more live actions and movies unlike most of the Spanish feeds but I'm scratching my head about the HD thing

I wonder if DC will add ex-Yugoslav tracks now that they are being added to Disney+ (Croatian in the summer and the rest in September). Serbian audio was once planned after the end of the Disney-RTS partnership but was cancelled, and soon after Disney content popped up on RTL Kockica in Croatia and Happy TV (extremely short-lived, only lasted a year. Violetta never got to air and Sofia had S2 dubbed by Happy's studio but left unaired) in Serbia.

I like the Spanish schedule and think during most viewable hours they have variety. Things could be way worse.

Yes. We know.

Anyways @Zzman be grateful for how many channels you have in HD. Here Nicktoons is still not in the format on any platform.

It's more a no than a yes, I think almost a definite "no" these days,

The thing is, "launching" a local channel in the area (or at least expanding it to the local environment) costs quite a bit compared to throwing everything on Disney+.
And, of course, it goes without saying how decrepit the current status of kids linear TV looks like

nicktoons is not in hd in Africa either and theres not that many channels that are an HD on DStv CN and nick are the only kids channels that are in HD

that's why I say that they should make disney channel in HD if they can do it in cee they can do in Africa too many people seem to forget the Africa also gets the short end of the stick along with the CEE countries

New episodes of Vikingskool (you read it right, Disney Channel Germany isn't even done with the show yet) have started today on Disney Channel Germany. Hilarious that there's an almost four-year gap between Vikingskool episode premieres on DC Germany.

That's why I'm kind of sceptical when channels go to FTA, this type of thing even happened with DC ES on FTA.

Which is, understandably, appeasing to a wider audience and ignoring "less profitable" content.

DC Germany's strength is mostly the "family" channel nature after 20:15

Spain also had the logo detached from the floor with a line coming from it and even stretched. Latin America used the US size but raised it a bit above the floor due to overscan (though Brazil had some ugly implementations)

Btw that logo you showed me is too skinny @Francisque
It looks thin, but I'm not sure whether it really looked like that on screen, I think it looked rather normal.
It might have been the VHS

But again, sadly my memory of DC Italy during these times does not go into details

A video from the same era (but it's cropped. Btw summer 2003 was such a beautiful and 'free' time for me but I won't get into it :,)). Pippi Longstocking among all this is so random

Me too, I have such good memories of Summer 2003 :)

And I definitely remember that promo, that Summer (the first Summer of Bounce) the channel still was very good, just as in 2004.

Pippi Longstocking though... I remember being sooo bored when this was shown to be honest :D
Not much happened during that show, like it was superflat for me!. It was already introduced in 2003 (maybe 2002) during the Circles era :)

Here's the proper HQ long version of the video
The song is "Libero Old - Gruppo Eterogeneo" (and the music video is not so... child-friendly? Incredibly so :D )

A Summer promotional video from 2001! Massimiliano Ossini was so young (he still looks great, to be honest)

Here's another one from 2001 (or 2002? More 2001, I think)

The good times DC IT still used real music...

DC Germany just needs to fix the way they air and Premier things the good thing is that there treating Vikingskool better than some feeds (even if its 4 years late) Nickelodeon Germany does a much better job in that regard

One of the last usages of the 'imagination' sort of slogan @PerkyStella
Yeah, external promos from Autumn 2003, if I remember correctly, already had started stopping that slogan.

late Spring/Summer 2003 was a transitional era on many Disney Channel's, when, after the rebrand had happened, some small elements of the old branding could still be seen, especially on live presentation. Of course, everything would be gone by Autumn 2003.
at 0:31 .

DC Live presentation block Live Zone (more inspired by French Zapping Zone) would also get replaced by Prime Time DIsney in Autumn 2003, which, to be honest, was a slimmed down version of Live Zone.

DC Italy had a bigger variety too, not even comparable.

While still tween, it had the likes of Quelli dell'intervallo, Foreign Exchange, The Sleepover Club, Even Stevens, Life with Derek, Patito Feo etc
However, I liked the fact that Smart Guy could still be seen, but at a very disappointing time!
I mean, use the 9pm-10pm slots for retro more "mature" kind of shows, at least, especially after Home Improvement left! Instead, the 21:00-00:00 schedule looked very disappointing

Teen Angel... meh, kind of neutral about it, as there are very few episodes of it. Missed opportunity to have Boy Meets World there, along with Smart Guy

DC UK was some of the worst of Europe honestly. Was this not problematic for EU quotas?

I can understand schedules being a disappointment during school hours but we are talking about primetime hours. I also don't understand this but they might have looked into ratings a bit too much just to get better viewership compared to it's rivals because everyone had hit shows.

UK channels quickly ignored the quotas, and even channels from the rest of Europe, especially Disney Cinemagic's (all of them), quickly used British licences to have a 24/7 "Disney" (or at least "US") channel.

The quotas really weren't enforced locally, in some cases still aren't.

The British Disney Channel was more of a disappointment at around 2005-8, but then it gradually got a bit better, at least from a variety point of view.

The 'Cool School' multimodal campaign used for Disney Channel Nordic from Aug 2004 (see here: Diverse Reklamer fra 2006 (TV3, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel)) was produced by the Swedish Paperino Reklambyrå, along with the PR-companies Just/Kidde (DK), Tibe United (NO) and Morkmann (SE):

Fox Kids CEE used to have a block named like that back in September 2003.

I actually like this. I get about the anniversary but this might be just a coincidence. Actually I don't really mind now if we get that one. I was worried we would stay with Signature Strokes for very long.

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
I don't know I gonna post it but i think I may had spread the disney abandoning blue sky studios like they did with fox kids/jetix propaganda onto awinger24 and now hes fears of paramount & warner bros
Europeans right now are experiencing the same Heatwave that africans face on a daily basis lol

honestly I like to think of this as some kind of "payback" too
But more exciting will be THIS! A new documentary about CN coming soon next year and looks like they even aknowledge Cramp Twins :ack:
