"Batman: Caped Crusader (Amazon Prime)" Animated Series News & Discussion Part 3 (Spoilers)

Hey! First post here.
Glad to see there’s some active discussion about this show.
As a life long Batman fan, I actually quite enjoyed this show, and welcome the changes to these characters. I always like seeing new takes, especially when we have dozens upon dozens of versions of these characters already.

I really liked Lady Penguin and LOVED this take on Harley. I’d go so far as saying it’s my favourite Harley in years.
I also really enjoyed Barbara Gordon in this show.

Really looking forward to season 2 and I hope we hear some sort of announcement about a possible release date soon.

Mod Note: Barbara Gordon fan art moved here.

According to Serum Lake over on YouTube, the show had a season two wrap party at The Rhythm Room LA. No idea where he got that information but, there we are.

I imagine Amazon would want to avoid a Summer release this time if X-MEN 97 and Spider-Man is due to drop their sophomore seasons around that time?

Todd McFarlane like he always does drop the ball big time not giving us action figures from Batman the Caped Crusader especially when he has the DC direct license. I can’t wait for Mattel to take over so they can compete with.Hasbro Marvel Legends X-Men 97 Line.

Some thoughts, spoiler tags for now.
A female Mad Hatter is intriguing; they already had Lady Penguin last season and she might return. But were just talking recently about Mad Hatter's daughter after appearing in Bat-Fam, and an unused show pitch from years ago.

Riddler wreaks havoc and leaves question marks with bullet holes in walls. At least I presume that was him. Seems more dangerous than the usual depictions of the character.

Carrie Kelley as Grey Ghost... not Robin, so this is an interesting twist. Though I kind of doubt she'll really become a full-time sidekick.

Roxy Rocket is another surprise. Wonder how climactic her episode will be on this show.

I'm guessing that The Gray Ghost might be a radio program and/or a pulp hero in this show, with Carrie Kelly being a fan who takes Inspiration from it.

Season 2 premieres on July 31. Again all 10 episodes at once.

IGN has first looks at new characters.
Wow, Carrie Kelley as Gray Ghost and Roxy were not on my bingo card. Scarecrow definitely. Riddler and Mad Hatter were nice surprises.

Hm, let's see, for season 1 it was May 9, 2024 revealed the date, June 26 was the trailer, August 1 was the premiere. I'm guessing the plan's next phase is hype it at Annecy then trailer release on the following week i.e. June 29, 30 or July 1.

Gray Ghost I believe is established already. I think Alfred was reading a book in "Nocturne"? Yeah, wouldn't be too surprised if there was a radio show, too.

Really glad we can look forward to it next month. Can't wait to see a trailer :).

General thoughts:

- I love getting Golden Age Joker complete with them recreating his Golden Age hand pose :D!

- Riddler looks like B:TAS Riddler only with a full green ensemble and glasses in place of a domino mask. Seems like they're framing him as a master-criminal who can pull off a bank robbery solo, so I'm genuinely curious how they're going to handle the riddle aspect O_o.

- Is that supposed to be Roxy Rocket in a Rocketeer-type outfit? It's like they mention her but she's the only one not clearly visible in the images .

- I get where they're going conceptually with Scarecrow echoing a plague doctor (plus everyone was expecting Scarecrow to show up this season), but it just feels...kind of bland? Maybe because Absolute Scarecrow is still fresh in my mind, but this just doesn't scream "Scarecrow" at all. If you asked anyone with DC knowledge who this was they'd probably say it's Golden Age Sandman or Firefly in a suit instead of Scarecrow. If that is Scarecrow :ack:.

- Gender-flipping Mad Hatter? Well they've conceptualized two daughter variants of him so I guess this was inevitable. Seems like she's going to be some kind of...hypnotizing talk show host? I wonder if she's going to be as loony or as lost in Wonderland as Jervis Tetch...will there be an "Alice?" Also, honestly, gender-flipping Hatter into a redhead female baddie when they still haven't introduced Poison Ivy feels a bit uneccessary. Or like using other legit female villains from the comics. Like the female members of Hatter's menagerie from the comics! Just a thought .

- Carrie Kelley in a Gray Ghost costume is cute. At the same time it really drives home how much this show does not want to use Robin that we can have Carrie Kelley in a Grey Ghost suit out there with Batman instead of Dick Grayson as Robin. Which is probably so they can double down on how cool Carrie is and also double down on how Robin doesn't fit with this Batman .

- The gun riddle symbol is SO on-point with this show :D!

- Flass still has his job apparently. Probably Bullock too. Honestly I think they've just about ran the course with the two of them in season 1, but I guess without them we don't have the corrupt police element .

- There's more of the Renee/Barbara friendship, if you're invested in that :p.

- Who splashed the hand-print Bat-Symbol paint? Joker? Batman? Anarky ?

- So we're getting Harley again. I think the question is whether she'll be involved in the Scarecrow episode...or if she'll meet Joker at all. Either way, I just want to see Renee slap the cuffs on her so we can be done with that plot .

- I really hope this is a season where Bruce consistently treats Alfred well :).

Once again a binge watch. How disappointing.

Other thoughts inside the spoiler tags:

* Interesting way to reinterpret Mad Hatter. I guess we're not doing Alice In Wonderland again, which is fine by me. I'm most curious about this one.

* Scarecrow is okay. I got to agree, after seeing how creative Absolute Scarecrow is, this feels like a step back. I would've at least him wear the full plague doctor garb instead of just the mask. It's a bit dull otherwise.

* Riddler looks okay. More of an outward criminal and not as stylish. I'm curious about the kiss that works as the dot in his question mark. Does he have a female accomplice or did he leave that himself?

* I guess the masked figure is Roxy Rocket. The homage to the Rocketeer is very cool and appropriate for the era.

* Carrie Kelley as Gray Ghost is cool. It's a nice inversion: Bruce was inspired by Gray Ghost into becoming Batman, and now Carrie is inspired by Batman to become GG. Also, using Carrie as an early career partner in 1930s Gotham versus her initially came at Bruce's later years in life in the near future.

* The newspaper Bruce reads has an article titled "Florist dead, leaves behind heartbroken daughter". This could be subtle set-up to Poison Ivy. Or alternatively, this could be Dinah Drake and the daughter is Dinah Lance. Either way, it strikes me as way too specific not to be foreshadowing.

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
