Coyote Va Acme was initially announced in 2018 as part of a trio of Looney Tunes movies meant for the brand-new HBO Max. Plans changed and the movie was put on WB’s theatrical schedule instead, promised for 2023. But instead of that happening, David Zaslav took charge and wrote the entire thing off for taxes, prompting outrage.
Right before this happened,
Coyote Vs Acme had been shown to test audiences who gave it one of the highest scores WB had received for anything. People now wanted to see what the hype was about, and were being told they couldn’t. And surprisingly, they didn’t like that! Zaslav, who seemed to relish playing games with big business, offered the film up for sale to other studios, except not really. When they arrived he gave them a gargantuan price they refused to take."
