The Family Guy character Stewie is getting his own spinoff called Stewie, which comes next year. It's getting a 2 season order.

Sorry (notsorry), but
Who asked for this?
Stewie has existed as long as Family Guy -- over 25 years -- and has plenty of episodes (and a straight-to-DVD special) centered on him and they're more than enough. If this was a miniseries, I'd be okay with it, although pretty miffed. They took way too long to do a spinoff on him and it'll likely go the way of The Cleveland Show is done wrong.

(sigh)... Okay.

I'm not gonna complain about this, but I personally think that is a little late to make a spin-off about a family member we all know for 25 years. I would understand it if it was about 10-15 years earlier.

Doomed to fail IMO, just as seen with the previous Family Guy seasons.

Admittedly, I also prefer more the "first Stewie" and the first seasons in general, but I can't see Stewie alone working.
It seems another The Cleveland Show in the making, but worse and at a worse time (although TCS it was not bad by any means, "different", and different to get used to)

"What The Deuce? Stewie Griffin Is Getting His Own Fox Spinoff"

"We were just wondering what Fox was going to do after the inevitable moment they cancel Universal Basic Guys (which hasn’t been announced, but…) They’ve found the perfect plug for that hole…it’s large and football-shaped and makes unhinged rants that only dogs can hear. Family Guy’s one-year-old icon Stewie Griffin is getting his own series, and it’s already been greenlit for two seasons.

While Family Guy mostly shows Stewie’s home life, his self-focused spinoff will reveal what things are like at his daycare…but not the one we’ve seen before. “After getting the boot from his old preschool, Stewie is forced to enroll in a new one that’s not exactly top-of-the-line,” reads Fox’s description of the premise. “It’s attended by a handful of kids he doesn’t know, and a 75-year-old class turtle with a half-cocked theory on just about every subject."

Hasn't the show already become like 50% the Stewie show already O_o?

Yeah, this should have happened like 15-20 years ago. But even then, I couldn't see it lasting for a long time, so I'm wondering what this show will be about.

Maybe they're going to replace Family Guy with this

No because the two seasons this show has been given are going to start 2027 which means it will likely go until 2029 unless renewed for more and the only way this would replace FG if somehow the Stewie show somehow did far more insane views in comparison to the FG where FG would feel pointless and only Stewie would be necessary going forward and... you really see any universe where that's a scenario?

And though a lot of people here have pointed out "this will fail like Cleveland show" and "wasn't Stewie most popular like 20 years ago why give him a show now" I haven't seen anyone point out yet the reason why they're doing THIS particular idea now; it's pretty clear Kirker Butler was able to convince the Fox Head Honchos "hey we have a chance to make a Rick and Morty kind of series with what some would still consider this popular beloved character we own we should take it" as yeah it's pretty clear based on the premise they are having Stewie go on much more elaborate out there sci fi premises instead of that just being an occasional thing between more sort of sitcomy shennigans.

Now I will say if you do look like years upon years probably over a decade and a half back I did once actually ask "hey what if MacFarlane and co made more an action series instead of just a sitcom follow up." That was based on being impressed by "Road To Germany" which yeah though borrowed a lot of action scenes from various famous movies did frame them in a fun enough way to go "you know why not really embrace that style for a spinoff instead of another sitcom." And if this is big sci fi crazy experiences that would be unique then just another family sitcom but like not only is it kind of too late for a Family Guy spinoff but Rick and Morty already has that niched covered way too well for a FOX show like this to try and copy. A niche BTW a lot of people has felt is already past it's prime so why would they be okay with now another show spinoff that is certainly past it's prime doing more? Honestly I'm really only invested in this if only because I want jokes on Family Guy itself mocking this idea like how even before during and especially after Cleveland show came out characters from FG were mocking it so yeah this deserves that even more so.

I think they're about 20 years too late. That "Stewie Griffin as a pop culture craze" period was from 2003 to 2006.

I remember watching the TV version of Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story on FOX Portugal in 2011 as part of its regular rotation (divided into three episodes with some scenes cut for time), good times

This is like giving Bart Simpson his own spin off. He’s a major character already. Why does he need his own show?

It's so random to do, but could be fun. Though I wonder how that effects the main show because Stewie plots are still the most fun ones the show does. Will they reduce that on the show? Might be interesting to see what happens.

Looks like Stewie got his wish from The Cleveland Show pilot. Can't wait to see how Quagmire would react.
Well, Quagmire was jealous of Cleveland getting his own show. It was a running gag throughout the series.

Is it really even necessary to give Stewie his own show? He's practically the real star of Family Guy anyway. Even money that some of the rest of the cast will occasionally make guest appearances.

Stewie is already a major character on Family Guy. He already gets a lot of focus and screen time. What's the point of a spinoff?

A spinoff should be for a minor or side character. Stewie is neither.

It's been a couple years since I watched any Family Guy and even this sounds random to me. American Dad already spoofed this concept when Steve got his own spin-off in an all-girls private school. 1-2 seasons max probably. I would have guessed Tom Tucker in some Anchorman-esque spinoff or Dr. Hartman in a medial dramedy or Meg at college even.

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
