Sony should cool it with acquisitions in the anime/manga sector. I mean I do propose Paramount Global/Skydance buy Sentai Filmworks if Sony buys AMC Networks.
Cartoon Network only created Adult Swim as a bid to get more adult viewers- and advertisers.

Now its expansion is because those adults are the only one watching, at which point I have to ask- what's the point of Adult Swim anymore?

I dont get you JMTV? WHY ON EARTH would the "CN Stans" want Adult Swim to dominate it? What is the gain? And then you say it will be detrimental... which they should already know? WHAT?

@aegisrawks Well, because Checkered Past and Toonami Rewind pretty much conditioned people to think that Adult Swim's expansion is okay, despite being a small band-aid to a big, gaping hole of a sinking ship. Hence why I said that. They put the network way too much on a high pedestal without thinking about the consequences.

Not to burst your bubble, but Nick@Nite is expanding to 7PM....in like, a week or so.

We're truly in the end ages, and there's nothing we can do about it.
I just realized something. Toonami is currently in the middle of the Dressrosa arc of One Piece (episode 63 of 118), which aired in Japan a decade ago.

The rotation of PlutoTV's One Piece channel currently goes all the way to the END of Dressrosa.

Toonami's run on One Piece has fallen so behind that it's being outpaced by FAST streamers.
Adult Swim was made so that more adults could watch CN (and especially for adult ADVERTISERS to advertise)

But if adults are the primary viewer base for CN as a whole, and also younger skewing shows are being moved to adult swim, then what’s the point of adult swim

I think that the folks in charge of Cartoon Network created this problem when they tried to compete with Nickelodeon directly. This cemented CN as a kid's channel in everyone's minds when before, CN was for cartoon lovers of all ages.

Hot take, putting all the adult programs under a specific adult label in the first place created the stigma that the rest of CN was for kids, especially given how it didn't even have the CN name attached.

Splitting it off into a seperate network for ad purposes just made it worse.

@Tacomaster Then technically the Adult Swim issue would've been going on since 2001.

And what about Nick at Nite, isn't that also an adult oriented late-night block for Nickelodeon?

Then do you think Disney Channel's any better about this since they don't have any late-night adult block?

Episode 2 of Uzumaki dropped. From what I heard, the Toonami Originals curse is NOT broken after all
Just sell Cartoon Network to Disney at this point

The decline in kids watching primetime was also likely why they switched all premieres to Saturday mornings by the end of 2019 so the decline in primetime was set in stone before Oulween came in. Oulween was kinda just trying to adapt with the primetime hours getting better numbers with adults.

I do believe that WBD executives and their investors pressured on Michael Ouweleen to do something is new to audience that allow WBD to make most of money as possible before cable TV decline further, basically band aid on cable network.
I don’t know about you, but if the only good Toonami original can produce less than one episode per year on average, that is not a good sign.
I wonder why basic cable channels didn't multiplex their feeds like premium channels (such as HBO and Showtime) did once digital cable became popular
    Moe

Biggest reason is bandwidth limitation with cable infrastructure, and of course, cost is other reason. Most cable companies rejected the major investment to expand the bandwidth that enable them to add more new channels.

It was reason about why Boomerang didn't receive the widespread launch, 24/7 Disney Playhouse didn't came to fruition until 2012 and Disney's hijacking into Toon Disney to add Jetix after launch of 24/7 Jetix didn't make it.

When cable TV decline and evolution of streaming, digital tier channels become useless and obsolete.
Hot take: making it so all your preschool shows premiere under the main CN brand while moving all your shows aimed for anyone above the age of 8 to Adult Swim is not going to help CN’s image
idea for a toonami april fools/daylight savings thing- air the Fleischer Superman cartoons again. There’s nothing stopping them, they’re public domain

Not just April Fools, but also daylight savings filler. Or maybe an anniversary special-ish broadcast. Not saying for them to come back regularly, but an occasional airing as a treat.
    what am I looking at

I want more kids shows on Adult Swim because this looks AWFUL.
last night I had a dream that Adult Swim took 6-8 AM

Their show of choice to air during those hours? The Dreamstone, a british abstract-furry-led kids cartoon from the 90s scored by the London Philharmonic that has a two-part pilot that's an epic fantasy like Lord of the Rings, then the remaining 50 episodes are Sylvester and Tweety style chase antics. I am not even kidding.

And yes, The Dreamstone is a real show.
With the disaster that the Boston bomb scare caused for Cartoon Network, Williams Street (whose Aqua Teen movie was being promoted by the Lite Brites caused by the bomb scare) seemed to get off Scot free. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if that weren’t the case.

If that weren’t the case, then Jim Samples will still be around today. Whatever Samples’ plans in 2007 is better or worse than Stu Snyder will remains to be seen.

Had the Boston bomb scare never happened, PPGZ would receive a dub with the original voice cast of the 1998 show.

@Vuxovich How you know about PPGZ is going to air on Cartoon Network if it wasn't for 2007 Boston bomb scare? Cartoon Network didn't kill Toonami until 2008, so English dubbed of show would air in late 2006 or early 2007. They planned in advance. That's more of anecdote or uncertain at best.

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
