I'm gonna say something that I've never heard anyone say about Nick Jr before: Noggin didn't die in 2009 like everyone thinks - Nick Jr is what actually died in 2009.
"But what do you mean? Everyone knows Nick Jr became a full 24/7 digital cable channel in 2009, replacing Noggin." No, what really happened was that Noggin just changed its name to Nick Jr - the shows were exactly the same, the branding of the bumpers and interstitials were exactly the same, and freaking Moose & Zee were still there, the only thing different was the name and logo - it really was just Noggin with a new name.
Meanwhile, the actual Nick Jr, the weekday morning preschool block on Nickelodeon that existed since the 90s, that had its own logo, own branding, own website, and own hosts (Face and later Piper O'Possum), separate from Nickelodeon proper and Noggin, almost like it was an entirely separate network the way Nick at Nite operates, is what was actually killed in 2009 when all of this happened. Months before Noggin changed its name to Nick Jr, the weekday morning preschool block was rebranded into just generic Nickelodeon, with the lineup itself being called "Play Date" while all the promos just said "on Nick" instead of "on Nick Jr" and the on screen logo was just the regular Nick logo instead of the Nick Jr logo.
And that's how it's been ever since, now instead of Nick Jr feeling like a whole separate dedicated mini-network that just happened to air on Nickelodeon weekday mornings like it did in the 90s and 00s, it now just feels like Nick airing a highlight reel of their most popular and newest preschool content while the Nick Jr channel is now basically the preschool equivalent of Nicktoons Network with the presentation still reminding me more of Noggin than of true old school Nick Jr.
Am I the only one who ever noticed and/or realized this? Does anyone agree? What do you think? Let me know in your replies.
