SYNOPSIS: "Bart becomes a hometown hero when he makes the game-winning catch at his Little League game, sending the Springfield Isotots to the championship for the very first time. Meanwhile, Homer runs into some luck, when a customer misunderstands Homer's excuses for a sales pitch after falling asleep in a department store's display bed. The impressed store owner hires Homer as a salesman."

Wow. That just got ridiculous.
Yet this show still makes me laugh every now and then. Either from it being actually funny, or because it's just stupid.

What the HELL kind of an ending was that?

I rather liked the Reverend Lovejoy mattress subplot. It's been a long time since we got a plot involving him, and while it didn't get much airtime it was engaging and had a cute resolution.

Funny moments:
-Wiggum driving Bart back into the stadium for more ridicule. Good "screw you" joke
-Homer trying to cover up the headline but finding another headline ("Bart error causes stock market plummet", or something like that)
-"Bart stinks" on the radio- a great joke to see how far the hatred had spread
-The joke about Elenaor Roosevelt actually being pretty until she was hit in the face with a baseball
-"Tried raising Cain but weren't Abel."
-How long it takes for Bart to finally catch a ball again, and the crowd's blah reaction

I do agree that they need to improve Apu's character quite a bit, even if he was only there for a line or two. Just sad what he's become. And get rid of the flapping cheeks guy.

The tone of this episode was all wrong. This is pretty good fodder for that "Has The Simpsons gotten too mean-spirited?" thread. They went for a plot with emotional depth here but didn't treat it like one, so it was just nothing at best, and a little disturbing at worst. But mostly nothing. And... eh, I'll just stop here.

That is exactly the reason why I decided to skip tonight's Simpsons episode: because the main plot was definitely setting up for some "mean spirited" humor.
