The minions have risen and although they are not numerous enough to take down Iron Man 3, they are officially the second-highest grossing feature film of 2013 after passing the $800 million point last week – despite not being allowed to open in mainland China. The domestic portion of that haul is currently $351 million with the film still playing in more than 1,000 theaters across the country as of late August.
Domestically, Despicable Me 2 is the fourth-highest grossing animated film of all-time behind Shrek 2, Toy Story 3, and Finding Nemo.
