At the recent Annecy Animation Festival, DC Studios announced that it is making a new animated series aimed at adults based around the comic book character Mister Miracle. Comic book writer Tom King has been announced as the showrunner and the show will be based on his 2017 Mister Miracle comic series.
Mister Miracle was created in the 1970s by legendary comic book creator Jack Kirby, as part of his “Fourth World’’ comic book series. Mister Miracle was the son of the benevolent High Father, leader of the planet New Genesis, who exchanged his son with the son of Darkseid, the dictator of the planet Apokolips, to create a peace treaty between the two worlds. Darkseid gave the baby Mister Miracle to his servant Granny Goodness. Granny Goodness controlled Apokolips’ orphanage system, moulding Apokolips’ youth into soldiers for Darkseid. Granny Goodness ironically named the baby “Scott Free’’ and tortured him to break his will and make him a pawn of Darkseid. Until one day he escapes from Apokolips and marries Darkseid’s former servant and warrior, Big Barda.
The series is described thusly:
“No prison can hold him. No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself?
“Something has gone horribly wrong with the perfect life that Scott and his warrior wife Big Barda have built for themselves on Earth. With war raging between their home worlds of Apokolips and New Genesis, Scott’s cruel adoptive father Darkseid seems to have finally captured the Anti-Life Equation – the ultimate weapon that will give Darkseid total dominance over the universe.
As the mountains of bodies on both sides grow ever higher, only Mister Miracle can stop the slaughter and restore peace. But the terrible power of the Anti-Life Equation may already be at work in his own mind, warping his reality, exposing his long-buried pain, and shattering the fragile happiness he’s found with the woman he loves. Mister Miracle has made previous animated appearances in Justice League Unlimited, Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Justice League Action. There is currently no announced streaming platform that will host this show. DC Studios is the new DC Comics Media ventured helmed by film maker James Gunn. Mister Miracle will be the second animated series created by DC Studios after Creatures Commandos was released in 2024.
