Over the weekend, following the Thursday debut of the Dan Da Dan second season finale, the show’s official website issued a statement that the third season was now in production. It shouldn’t be that surprising that one of the most popular anime running today would get a renewal, but we at last have it in writing.
“The production of the third season of the TV anime ‘Dandadan’ has been announced! Along with the announcement of the third season, visuals featuring Momo, Okarun, and Turbo Granny have also been released,” the site says (at least according to Google Translate). You can check out the image below. Science Saru put out a similar statement on their site, confirming they will be handling the animation once again.
Overall Season 2 of Dan Da Dan was focused on Evil Eye, the demented ghost possessing the body of Jiji. Evil Eye started as a serious and grim threat before gradually becoming more comedic over the course of the season. In a very Ranma-inspired twist, it was discovered cold water will bring out Evil Eye and warm water will turn Jiji back to normal. Also, as of three episodes ago, he is only allowed to fight every other Tuesday.

The over-the-top season finale saw a giant kaiju attacking the city. In response Momo reshaped her grandma’s moldable house into a giant robot that she and her friends could pilot. After many complications, the kaiju finally fell and shrank, and when they dragged it home they discovered a zipper…and an alien girl within the suit. An alien girl that, naturally, kissed Okarun immediately, throwing a further complication into the relationship turmoil of these kids.
As it stands, to date the anime has only adapted one third of the Dan Da Dan manga, which has reached Chapter 209 in Shonen Jump+. The alien girl is from the end of Chapter 71.
One thing we don’t know is when Season 3 of Dan Da Dan is expected to show up. The entire show started less than a year ago, running two seasons within 11 months. Can Science Saru keep up that pace, or will other projects like the new Ghost in the Shell cause them to fall behind? S’pose we’ll find out.
